Yesterday was my girlfriend's birthday and today was our 2 year anniversary so after hitting 5 casinos yesterday, we decided to go canoeing on the Big Elk River today... 8 miles in about 4 hours or so.

We dumped the canoe once when the current knocked us into a submerged tree... had a heckuva time righting the canoe as the current kept sucking it further under the tree. Had a similar situation further down river but managed to keep the canoe upright.

Big Elk is a popular spot for canoers with beautiful bluffs overlooking parts of the river. Water is generally pretty crystal clear and usually about 5 foot or less. You can see trout and turtles swim under the canoe.

Lots of people on the river today.. we saw three different people lose their canoe in one turn we had trouble in so we don't feel too bad. (We've only been there twice).

Both of us got REALLY sunburned tho... my legs are on fire right now!

At least we were smart and left the good stuff in the car.. I lost my good digital camera there last October when we hit a submerged boulder!

You might wanna have a doctor look at your burn. If it's as bad as I imaging you could get pretty sick from a severe sunburn. I had a very bad burn once from an airshow and ended up with swollen feet, ankles and calves as the body reacts by sending fluids to the area. Not fun! :(

If it's just a bad ... typical... burn then it's Noxzema... NOXZEMA.... NOXZEMA... but not where you have sores... or blisters! Noxzema has a cooling and moisturizing quality that works well. Good luck!

I normally burn terribly around the hairline of my scalp.. needless to say, the peeling after the sunburn can be quite unattractive!

best thing to do after getting sunburned is to apply vinegar to the sunburned areas, it will draw the fire right out and will usually prevent the skin from blistering

Seems to be improving.. the whole area is purple, like a bruise and feels like one.. but at least I can stand and walk today.. been taking Ibuprofen too which seems to help a bit.

It will get better:) I've been lucky that I am outside and in the water so much that I rarely get burned~ I just stay tan all year long.
