I'm going to write a blog post about the Top 10 mistakes a domain investor can make; if anyone wants to contribute then please make your suggestions below!

They can be anything related to domain names. I'll use the best ones in the article - crediting you, of course.

Liked the way you presented .. your entire research on the 'RX'. Beautiful.
But didn't like selling it .. for $31 :)
I was tracking the registered domains and lost the address of this tool.. can anyone help on that ? What is the URL of this online tool?

Why was lenders.com a mistake?

This is off topic, why not post it separately. You can see that you have diverted people's attention from the interesting topic.

...registering domains that were penalized by Google before learning how to research this properly.

1. Getting into bid wars. Even worse if there are end users on the other side.

2. Not understanding what makes a good brand. Even worse: try to learn branding from domainers.

3. Not being fluent on the language you are targeting.

4. Not having a minimum knowledge and expertise about the target market. Investing in domains we have absolutely no interest in using or develop.

5. Spamming.

6. Short-sight focus on acquisition/registration cost rather than on the renewal cost.

7. Ignore and underestimate the value of parking (extra revenue, stats, and show potential availability without showing desperate).

Thinking that you'll never make a mistake just because you've read/heard about other mistakes.

We are humans, driven by passion and emotions and there will be a point
in time when you'll know that "this decision is a mistake" but you'll do it anyway. :)

However, knowing others mistakes is the first step to avoid making to many mistakes.

-Hand regged bagogo.com (published on Brandbucket) , sold it cheap after a year here on NR. 2-3 months later it got sold on BB by the owner at that time.
-EcoAirways.com was going to be hand regged a while back and all I had to do is press register. For Whatever reason I didn't , it was regged by someone else later that day and 1-2 months later sold for 2k on sedo.
--biggest mistake, hand regged a name. Sold it cheap, then a contact I had said can easily broker the name for a few k sale price easily, bought it back for 1k ! And the person failed to bring any offers (this was 4-5 years ago).
Expensive lesson learned!

This is an old thread, but still. Had to share this one.

My biggest mistake: I have registered more than 500+ domains at 1und1

1) Didn't start with domaining in 1996 when I predicted it will be a huge business. This is my biggest mistake regarding domaining.

2) Forgot on 50+ CHIPS (LLLL.coms) at some "wild" registrar as I signed in with some "wild" email address too to avoid spamming. Didn't check that email address and completely forgot on those CHIPS.

3) Sold around 100 LLLL.coms (chips and highly pronounceable non chips) for $15-$50 from time to time.

4) Wanted to reg hundreds of 6N.coms in February this year but gave up. I could reg triple repeating numbers without "0" and "4" at that time.

Only those who can predict the day and time of his death can know when business will be fruitful.

That is the secret behind wealth. Human can only try his best and leave the rest.

Cheers
