Subdomains with high ranks?

Is it possible for a subdomain to have a high page ranking?
I've created a bunk of guesthouse sites with subdomain and they don't seem to show up in search result very well. I thinking of using a cheap .in or odd domains for the first year and have a redirect to the subdomain, would this help?

Build some good backlinks to your subdomains and you will see the changes.

You can get higher SERPS with sub-domains too.
That depends upon the backlinks and the content quality.
