Hello .TV visionaries...Assume this strictly hypotethical scenario:

You have spent this whole past week having little or no sleep in the midst of extremely stressfull negotiations for the sale of the crown jewel .TV domain in your domain portfolio, let us call it an international city .TV geo. This is not the first time you have been approached by this buyer who has previously offered mid-six-figures, but during the previous 4 approaches, you have always tenaciously hanged on for seven-figures+change.

The buyer's latest offer to you this week has reached high six figures after grueling negotiations. He's close and it's pretty tempting, but also you know he wants the domain soo badly, eventhough on top of the first page of the faxed contract, it is noted in capital, this is our very last offer and the contract offer expires Monday. Also the contract includes an NDA clause.

You have this weekend to respond to the buyer. So would you (again Stricly Hypotetically speaking):

1) Accept the high six-fig and sign the dotted line and fax back right away.

2) Accept the high six-fig and sign but fax back Sunday night (play cool).

3) Accept the high six-fig but cross the NDA clause with the goal of raising the value of the other geo domains in your portfolio whether .TV or not.

4) Accept the NDA in return for a nudge in the price say 50k more.

5) Stay tenacious and keep hanging in there for seven figures, not only due to human nature's greed, but also because from past history you are 95%positive this buyer will be back.

Again assume this is strictly hypotetical scenario...What would you do in this situation? 1,2,3,4, or 5 or something else?

or something else?

Taking into consideration this is not the first time I have been approached by the buyer with a series of offers from low to mid, then high-six-figures, I believe the picture is clear : they do want this specific name for development = no hesitation, I would go for Nยฐ5.
But... as I don't need immediate returns, then the idea of leasing + getting a percentage of whatever they end up doing on could be much more interesting on the long term than outright selling. Here you get the Nยฐ6 scenario :)

@jeffoverman, @Qoof, @len: I tried to pre-empt discussing this further with my last comment on this thread by saying "...Though I am not able to elaborate further ...".

I am sorry if it appeared that I came and asked you and the other .TV'ers for help then left everyone hanging, but there was no other way believe me... I can though say a few things in 3 different ways, hypothethically, factually and what I am convinced of-lly.

*** Hypothetically:
-AmCy you were the one who nailed it...you are so right about calculated risk and projecting confidence. For example if that night you scratched their number and wrote your original asking price number instead and faxed it back, it could result in a request for a conference call to now supposedly have a "serious discussion". Yeah you want to have a serious discussion too, but you can tell them that their offer is still one third of the way off and to please not bring any of that "last offer" crap with you to the conference call.

*** Factually:
-business.com domain sold for 150k on june 1997
-business.com domain sold for 7.5 M on Nov 1999
-business.com as a full-fledged business selling for 40 folds in 2007 will not be used for the purpose of this argument.
-Toys.com sold for 1.25M and for 5.1M within the same month.

*** What I am convinced of-ly:
-This ONLY applies for Mega .TV Domains with renewals under $1000
-Looking at the first 2 dates in business.com analogy, i believe mega .TV domains are right now in .COM's 1998.
-I believe Mega .TV Geos are the cream of the crop along with mega-category-defining-generics.
-I believe I should follow the smart money, people who are smarter than me. Are they buying or selling .TV?

I think I can write for all of us who subscribed to this thread: thanks much for the update.

I have seen lots of strangers, friends and family fail due to reckless risk. I've learned from them. I've seen tons of strangers, friends and family succeed as a result of calculated risk. I learned even more from them. You are obviously the kind of guy who does the research and thinks things through, so I was not worried that you would do something that you'd later regret.

I'm hoping we can learn more about this particular transaction at some point in the future. Thanks again for a great thread! :tu: :great: :kickass:
