Strange GoDaddy email

Just received an email from GoDaddy stating:

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Customer Number for your account. Please keep this information in a safe place for your reference.

It included my number which I already knew.

Bottom line, I did not contact GoDaddy for my number.

However, I called GoDaddy immediately after and let Matt of Customer Support know.

It's probably not a big deal but I just want to make it public here as I get paranoid about attempted domain name hijackings.

Might not be a bad idea to change your password. Better safe then sorry!

Lot of Domain hijacking attempts made these days. We need to be more cautious. thanks for sharing domainica.

I got the same email last week. It worried me for a bit too but I decided it didn't pose any risks I could think of so I forgot about it. Only thing I could think of is them calling support to try and "social engineer" their way into sending them ("me") a new pass to a different email or something like that. Even then, they wouldn't need a customer # so far as I know - only an account name (which it seems they had already). Fortunately, I was very careful in selecting my security questions and knew no-one would be able to bypass them.

My advice is for everyone to do the same if you haven't already. Make your security questions for support calls/password problems such that no one could research them or ask your acquaintances to find the answer! If anyone has any other ideas or opinions about this I'd be interested to know. It is still somewhat puzzling. There are some shady figures out there to be sure!

Change your password as well as your security pin.

And if it happens, be sure to let Godaddy know of it.

You really do need to be careful nowadays, nothing is safe anymore.
