i have read all the posts here and i am still confused. If i email someone(found their email address using whois),asking them if they would like to buy my domain name,is this considered spam?

i wouldn't email them asking them if they want to buy your domain, i think they may laugh at you, if they wanted your domain they would contact you.

rusty628 is saying no. Don't email asking them to buy your names. They would email you if they wanted them.

But they may not know these domain names are taken. that's why i want to email them.

I get a few emails offering to sell me domains, especially ones that are similar to domains that I already own. Thankfully GMail's spam filter tosses most of them into the junk mail folder so I never see them, the ones that do end up in my inbox get tagged as spam.

Now, if someone took the time to learn a little about my business and wrote a personalised email to _me_, not the email address in my whois, offering to sell a relevant domain and not just a ccTLD version of an existing domain I own, then I might take a bit more notice.
