Apparently getting a job like everyone said to do still doesn't help me buy car insurance as I thought it would. They want me to pay up 3 months at a time and not monthly so it doesn't help me out (neither does a second job which I'm trying to pick up now). Car insurance costs me 600 bucks a month. I make enough a month, but I just don't make enough to pay for the 3 months. Any ideas of whats web worthy enough to rake in 1800. I have no domains to park and my only "skill" is graphic design somewhat. Is any money making method working real well for you? Let me in.

If you're wondering why I'm in a rush, it's because I dumped out hundreds of bucks on drivers ed to get my license a year early. If I don't take advantage of my early license and turn 18 before getting my insurance then I could basically kiss that cash goodbye and call it a waste.

Why is your insurance so high? That's a ridiculous price...

I would shop around for better insurance before paying for that.

Well I live in New York City and I'm a brand new driver.

There is no insurance company cheaper than 5k a year for me at this age.

that's ridiculously high. I'm mad about $250 a month. My aunt lives in ny and insures her Mercedes, their suv AND there two kids for less a month. SO there has got to be a way for you to pay waaaay less.

And if you decide their isnt sell the car and ride the bus.

The problem is that under my parents I'd be insured for way less like 4 grand less. But since I'm starting my own insurance it'll be A LOT more. (My parents wont put me on because of how easy it would be for someone to sue them and win our house)

Maybe I might be wrong, but every "accurate" quote I've received from car insurance companies have been in between 5k and 7k. I even called up a couple and they said it's because of where I am, how young I am, and because I'm a brand new driver.

Edit: If anyone is curious on what I'm attempting to insure. It's a '83 Lincoln Town Car.

Best of luck humdizzy, i feel for ya. I heard esurance is pretty cheap. Also are you just getting the basic insurance or are they quoting you for stuff you don't really need.(fire/theft,etc.)?

Liability (which is the only thing required) costs me 5k. And is the lowest. The insurance with all the additions are 6 - 7 k

If your parents are afraid of getting sued at all they should legally stop owning what they dont want to lose. There are various ways to do this, ask a lawyer. It's usually done through trusts etc.

That's a great idea and I will highly recommend this to them, but I'd need some in-depth, highly convincing information for them to do it just so I can get car insurance. I really think they're just being big babies about it because first it was its not that they don't trust me but they don't trust the other people out there on the roads. And now its well, even if I get insurance and the accident is not my fault, we're still in big trouble.

But yea I'll try to push it on them.

Thanks a lot for the idea.

Have you tried to factor in discounts?
I know that under my parents my insurance would normally be very expensive, but with discounts such as 'good student' and a 'safe drivers' program that I did, I get about $300+ off which makes it a little over $100 a month.

I took drivers education which gives me 15% off and the "Good Student" discount was factored in with the quotes. That 15 percent off still helps me none as I still can't afford the 5 thousand dollars (well I can it'll just take me a while to save up that much and I only have less than a year till my 18th birthday). Once I turn 18, the whole rush to get insurance is over as the hundreds of dollars I spent on getting my license would be officially considered a waste.

I've decided I'm just going to take my paycheck and spend it on cabs as there is no way I'm saving up enough to pay for car insurance before my birthday in august.

Yes! I landed the second job. I think between the two I'll make enough in about a month for some sort of initial car insurance payment.

Edit: I realized the cab idea wasn't such a great idea as it costs me nearly a quarter of my paycheck to take a cab to school and then home at the end of the day.

That's a crazy price. My family owns an insurance agency and most people pay quarterly or biannually for $600. Try Progressive or AIG insurance.

I tried them both. Everyone responds with outrage when I tell them how much it would cost me, but either I'm doing something drastically wrong or insurance is really 6k for brand new 17 year old drivers in New York City.
