I went there today for the first time and to my surprise, in my opinion, the site is garbage. To have paid so much money for a .mobi addy and then to have more than 90% of its content lead to non mobi compliant sites is a shame. The flowers.mobi site itself is mobi compliant but all of the internal links go to .com pages that require much scrolling in both directions. I wish I had the money to blow on an idiotic ideal such as this. Maybe the mobi compliant part skipped over this guys head.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The site may be poor, but that doesn't mean the deal was. It just requires a broader view of the business. Consider the following:
- the buyer may have used this so set a price level for .mobi sales as a way to thank mTLD for having trust in him to auction .mobi domains.
- by setting a high price level for .mobi sales he got a higher commission on auctioned .mobi's both in this auction and future auctions.
- the enormous publicity this deal gave to him and to the Traffic shows he organises was probably worth more than the 200K already.

I think it was worth the money for him. Possibly not for the domain, but certainly for the whole package.

Rick may eventually sell to 1-800-flowers, the second-highest bidder (and invited to speak at another TRAFFIC conference). Price to be based on the market in a few years when mobile and mobi are much less speculative. Rick will do very well, I expect.

I don't, that's why I said it was just a guess. If I spent 200k
on a premium domain name I would not care about a typo worth
far less. It does'nt make sense to have a knock off when you
already have the real thing :imho:

Knock yourself out then and see how much he'll pay for your 'no traffic typo name'.

Maybe he'll even 'return' your email solicitation.

...maybe.

hey no sweat all. I can get snarky on forums too when I am choked about something else usually and I and it comes out in some posts at times.

I actually did realize afterwards that rs owned it when I went thru more posts. Too many players too many words and too many late nights trying to make this domaining work makes one brain filled with alot of scenarios. Its a very creative career as a domainer as we well know and to make it I can see that this business is filled with sensitive and arty people. ( not too mention the notso's as verified by the multi millions of garbage domains out there).

I actually started with mobis last sept in domains so i'm a newbie but I was on the net since 96 within import export and yes like many missed the generic domain rush. I am certain all of us one day will have that BIGGIE domain sale we will brag about and hopefully more domains to follow suit. We / I are not in this for our health and those long late hours of research will pay off, it will payoff , it will..... (thats what I keep telling myself anyhow.) I am a newbie but catch on quick too bad it wasnt much earlier in the domain game.

Anyhow back to flowres.mobi I tried to email rs at [email protected] (?) thru his erealestate site and maybe he will get it I am not sure . Anyone know another email of his? His blog has no email only commets and I left him one there so he shouldget it. Like you say what the heck give it a shot. One mans trash and all.

If I get a reply from him I'll post it here.

thnx again

all is good!

Sounds like an insider...I agree that the value of Flowers.mobi isn't the point. It could have been any generic TLD. I also think knowing that 1800-Flowers being present there is what gave Rick the idea to go all out. Really it was imho a pretty low thing to do and orchestrated for him to profit and for a legitimate domain developer to gain a solid mobi. That imho was the first bad thing to happen for mobi but others believe it was the best thing. The ecosystem doesn't exist. Mobi is just another TLD.

And I guarantee that if flowers.mobi was auctioned again. 1800 wouldn't care and the domain would be lucky to get $50k. Recent Sedo auctions showed many good domains sell are reasonable rates. Flowers was a fluke.

oh, of course, 20 posts up to then, should have been our 'tip off'.

VisionEdger, you do what feels right, and best of luck. Nothing gained, nothing ventured!

(On a side note, interesting choices in the 'editing' of the posts here.)

Actually, our Dear Rick is planning on doing a quick flip - flowers.mobi... Go Fusu! (Maybe I'll put some of my names up on auction once we see how well that goes...

Isn't FUSO offering Initial Domain Offering (IDO) like a stock IPO?

How can it be a quick flip if they are selling shares?

Has anyone bought into this concept?
