I have a domain INCLARO that seemed very brandable when I registered it a few weeks ago. One of my biz contacts said that unless you speak spanish (I don't) it isn't quite that brandable (the word claro is spanish). My question for you is...in this instance as well as others, does it reduce its brandability greatly?

We all know about Chevy having trouble selling Nova's since No Va essentially means "Doesn't Go". But I don't see Inclaro having any negative aspects like that. Why would you think having the word "Claro" in the domain would affect its marketability?

Check out all of these company names here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_company_name_etymologies

Sure, some of them make more sense than others, like Compaq (Computer & To Pack into a small space) and Intel (Integrated Electronics), but in the end, we would not recognize any of the names on that list unless they offered something useful and in masses.

So focus on making whatever you plan on offering on the site better, and the marketing and brandability won't be such an issue. I'm not saying all words are brandable, I'm just saying it doesn't matter if you have Inclear or Inclaro if you don't have something great to associate the name with.

But to better answer your question, I like names that end in a vowel, especially an "o", and having it start with a vowel as well will help too. I don't think it matters TOO much whether the word in your name is recognized by your target audience. In fact, it might help in some cases since it might make them wonder what the name means and so it will stick out more in their minds.

Thanks for the reply!

It's become a discussion of how easy it may or not be to pronounce or if you aren't a big company and can't market your way past a name with hurdles maybe it should start out easy to say. Personally, I think it holds many of the attributes you've described including my favorite which is that if it could become a verb, i.e. "did you google it?".
