Spaceship suspects buyer fraud even after payment?

The buyer has already paid, yet Spaceship still suspects that the customer might be committing fraud?

I sold a domain on Spaceship and received a message saying that verification would take place within 24 hours, so I thought they needed to verify something with me.

But after 24 hours, the status still hasn’t updated—it says they’re waiting for buyer verification, apparently due to a potential fraud concern.

I really don’t understand what they’re trying to verify.

The buyer has already made the payment, so what kind of fraud are they suspecting?

This is my first transaction on Spaceship, and it already feels more troublesome than Afternic.

Why don't these places wait until they verify the buyer before they inform the seller he made a sale? I guess that makes too much sense and we can't have that!
Hi

in a perfect world, everyone would be verified.
but then you’d have to check every users ability to pay up to a limited or unlimited amount, even if they never buy.

imo….

Because people have domains listed in other places and the last thing they want is to wait a few days to verify the sale and you sell it to someone else. They also want you to not make changes to the domain that can cause a lock. Also, most sales are legit, the chances of it failing during verification are low.

I hope they solve it quickly

Because then the seller would be kept in the dark and might potentially sell the domain elsewhere (maybe even for less), put it up for wholesale auction, let the domain drop or expire. etc.

It's better for us to have all the information available and as Spaceship has been totally clear and upfront with what's going on, it's up to you to grow up and have a little patience.

If it's a valid payment, everything will work out. If not, then it was never a real sale to begin with, and blame the scammer.

If you had a stolen card, it would be easier to launder it via a credit card processor account, than to “sell” yourself a domain name, but I’m sure it happens.

I will share my input on this.

I had my first sale on spaceship last month.

It was obviously a genuine buyer, however I believe the spaceship buyer verification process involves contacting the payer through their payment details to confirm they authorised such transactions(Eg. The credit card holder or bank account holder).

The payment verification failed after about 48 hours (I believe they were not able to reach anyone).

The same buyer made the payment again and it was verified successfully in under 30 minutes.

Amount was $4500

One reason is that it is important if the name was listed multiple places that it be immediately removed/hidden from any other listings so a double sale can't occur.

I think it is absolutely normal for some additional period to check the payment.

Sellers should not regard a name as sold, or report the sale, until all those steps have taken place and they actually have payment, in my opinion.

I got a similar note last week on a sale. The wording of the message bothered me but I waited and a day or two later the funds were released to me.

Spaceship need to tighten up here.

When you get a Congrats eMail from Godaddy you know that sale is going ahead.

But maybe the fire is gone from the belly of Spaceship as they sip Pina Coladas by the pool?

Sadly, as humans, we've lost patience!

Hello! @789.xyz,

It's been over a week. Do you have any updates? I went through a similar experience with Afternic, and my case has been ongoing for over a month...

Thank you for the update.

It's great to share this at the end so that the businesses in question don't experience any losses as a result of your post.

Yeah. I wish more of these type of threads would include the ending.

It seems like this was just some normal verification process.

Everyone just needs to relax when it comes to basic stuff like verifying payments, as there are more than enough serious domain marketplace problems to worry about.

I wonder what the OP would do if he spent a week negotiating a 5-figure deal, then the Afternic broker goes on holidays for 2 weeks and leaves you with your bare ass hanging out the window... that's some shit that you need to get worried about, not SS taking a few days to verify a payment.
