Spaceship suspects buyer fraud even after payment?

The buyer has already paid, yet Spaceship still suspects that the customer might be committing fraud?

I sold a domain on Spaceship and received a message saying that verification would take place within 24 hours, so I thought they needed to verify something with me.

But after 24 hours, the status still hasn’t updated—it says they’re waiting for buyer verification, apparently due to a potential fraud concern.

I really don’t understand what they’re trying to verify.

The buyer has already made the payment, so what kind of fraud are they suspecting?

This is my first transaction on Spaceship, and it already feels more troublesome than Afternic.

Not saying that it is, but it could in theory be a (suspected) stolen credit card that was used for the purchase.

If this is supposed to be an industry standard, then they should simply notify the seller after the verification is done. All we need to know is when the deal is confirmed. I think this is where they’re less professional than Afternic.

Also on Atom is the same thing
Is a standard for a while on all marketplaces : Sedo ( is new | i sold this summer a domain with 250 £ and after 1 day say payment was fraudulent ) , Atom , Afternic , Spaceship...many payments are made with stolen card , access bank account without permison of owner etc..
Sometimes can take more than 24 H
Only thing you can do is to wait & hope payment is legit

I’m pretty sure the payment is legitimate. The buyer seems very sincere — they’ve been tracking this domain on Afternic for two months before this.

I see. So, according to you, if a stolen credit card is used, they’re actually suspicious of the seller? Because the seller could use a stolen credit card to buy their own domain and cash out?

You will then likely not have anything to worry about. Give it a couple of more (working) days.

Not important who make the payment
Important is the buyer to be the same is write on credit card , bank account ...( address , ID etc..)
If is not is fraudulent

any marketplace that doesn't do serious fraud checks will go out of business within a few weeks or months.

Classic scam on marketplaces involve people listing a domain on a marketplace, then using a stolen card to buy the name they listed. The same problem exists with affiliate programs.

With payments, regardless if its a domain or you order online, in most cases the check is done after the order is placed.

Same thing happened with me in July at Atom.

It was took about 1weeks+ I think for my case. At last all cleared.

Hope your purchase will be proceed successfully too.

It’s likely a standard anti-fraud measure on Spaceship’s side. Even after payment is received, some platforms temporarily hold transactions to verify the payment method, buyer identity, or account activity to prevent chargebacks or unauthorized purchases.

While the process can seem unnecessary when the buyer has already paid, these checks are generally designed to protect both parties and the platform from potential disputes.

If the buyer responds promptly or verification completes automatically, the status usually updates within 24–48 hours. Delays beyond that may require contacting Spaceship support for clarification.

Credit card fraud is a very common thing.

It's reasonable for a marketplace to take steps to verify payment.

Hi

if you’ve owned the name for more than 60 days…
then don’t get all stressed out if some phase of the transaction process takes a little longer than usual or as expected.

remember that the check, check, and double checking that they do, benefits the domain game.

just saying…

imo….

Sadly, the above is also where some of the questionable domain sales report history comes from (Keep in mind, not all sales reports are retracted, even if/when it's later found out to be a stolen CC purchase), which is why one should never leverage sales reports alone as a reason to buy a domain anywhere near what it reportedly sold for in the past. The crazy number of 4 to 5-figure sales that are still on sales landers 1 to 5 years later for sub-par names most people wouldnt even think to register with a $0.99 promo code is staggering.

Due diligence in multiple directions (Other than sales history) is critical!!!

Absolutely agree — a lot of those reported sales shouldn’t be taken at face value. Some end up being reversed or never completed at all, but the numbers still circulate. It’s always better to double-check ownership history and real-world demand instead of trusting old sales data alone.

Why don't these places wait until they verify the buyer before they inform the seller he made a sale? I guess that makes too much sense and we can't have that!

Thank you too being an experienced member of this great platform for endorsing my view. It is a matter of pleasure that you have achieved a sale through spaceship.com.

What are the tricks and procedures followed to get that sale? Create a new thread on this without mentioning the name of domain.

Sale? I think you've mistaken me with someone else. I haven't had a sale other than Ebay in years!
