Sony Layoffs In American Playstation Division

Roughly 80 to 100 employees of Sony Computer Entertainment of America's Foster City headquarters were laid off today, Kotaku has learned from a source who was among those asked to hand in their badge and keys before leaving the premises.

"In an effort to accurately align the company to meet the changing needs of our consumers and of our industry, Sony Computer Entertainment America has found it necessary to analyze our current business and to restructure the company as necessary to continue our standing as the market leader," SCEA spokesman Dave Karraker told Kotaku this evening, when contacted for comment. " These restructuring efforts are currently underway and do include the streamlining of our operations and other initiatives to further strengthen the business, reduce costs and increase operational efficiency. "

Oopsie! Looks like maybe the Playstation 3 strategy wasn't such a good idea.. I read that Wii is outselling PS3 in Japan 5 to 1!

PS3 dropped the ball.

I've always had every system, however, everytime I walk into the store I look at the games for the PS3. Their's nothing there. The games are all on other systems or non-interesting exclusives.

The space next to my Xbox 360 and Wii will remain empty.

Truthfully, one reason I initially chose my Gamecube was because they offer some games I really enjoy that aren't available on other systems (I own 63 Gamecube games)..

So.. I agree.. PS3 really, really dropped the ball.. And once again, there are always PS3 units available in my local Walmart and the Wii's fly out almost as soon as they come in. Still haven't snagged one.

Sony never understood the quality over quantity aspect of games.

Look at the amount of games on any of Nintendo's or Microsoft's systems. Sony demolishes them with the amount of games they have for their systems.

However, when you compare the amount of GREAT games. That's where the two wreck Sony.

I think so too.. I still enjoy games like Banjo Kazooie & Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64 too!

PS3 was a flop indeed. I won't be buying one - I prefer my old PS2 - and it's just not worth the money at all.
