Download image FOSTER CITY, Calif., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) announced that MLB.TV, one of the largest subscription video offerings on the Internet, is available today in North America on the PlayStation®3 (PS3®), the first and only gaming console to stream live baseball games in High Definition (HD). MLB.TV subscribers can enjoy every regular season game live in HD through a combination of superior picture quality and interactive functionality delivered over the Internet, creating an unparalleled live viewing experience. The combination of the PS3 system's technical capabilities and MLBAM's pioneering live high definition streaming technology provides the necessary infrastructure to make this platform partnership the industry benchmark for streaming live HD content to the home.

"MLB.com is the perfect partner to showcase the power and potential of PS3 as an in-home platform for all types of entertainment: games, TV, movies, original content and now, live, HD access to America's favorite pastime," said Jack Tretton, president and chief operating officer, SCEA. "We are excited for our customers who don't live near their favorite team and can now see every game, and keep an eye on the rest of the league, too, as this season promises to include many record-breaking moments that they won't want to miss."

"In addition to desktops and laptops, which can be found in every American home, as well as mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, this transaction represents another important distribution point for our fans to enjoy live baseball games via the Internet," said Kenny Gersh, senior vice president, business development, MLBAM.

With PS3 and PlayStation®Network, MLB.TV subscribers receive a superior visual and interactive experience with an array of features built and designed exclusively for use in the PS3 ecosystem. Some of the features include:

Home and Away Feeds – Choose to watch either the home or away broadcast feed.
Live Game DVR Functionality – Use the live video overlay to pause and rewind live games or fast-forward back to live game action.
Scrollable Linescore – Go directly to any half-inning to watch only that portion of the game.
MLB Scoreboard – Scrollable league-wide scoreboard for each day's games in three modes: Pre-game with scheduled starting pitchers; Live with up-to-the-minute game status; and Post-game with final pitching decisions and archived feed selection.
Favorite Team Selection – Pick a favorite team or teams to be featured first on the daily scoreboard.
Calendar Schedule – Scroll through the entire 2010 Major League Baseball schedule in calendar format or the user-designated favorite team's schedule.

Recognizing PS3's ability to process, stream and display live HD content, the MLB.TV offer is exclusive to PS3 owners and free to current MLB.TV subscribers who already own a PS3 system. PS3 owners have additional access to a complete home entertainment solution through PlayStation Network to enjoy high-definition games and movies, as well as listen to music, view photos, browse the Internet and more.

MLB.TV is still a simple URL redirect to the main .COM site! :red: :imho:

The only thing that matters is the branding. MLB.tv along with TNT.tv is one of the reasons I don't know anyone who has not heard of .tv. The average internet user is luscky they can sign on to Facebook without going to Google first. They have no idea what a redirect is nor do they care, only people with "interesting lives" care.

Stand-alone development / "ecosystem" is the critical (and still missing) element ... with the struggling 10+ year-old ccTLD ".TV"! :yell: :imho:

All that matters is the branding and MLB has done great job branding the .tv and that's not imho that's fact.

Fact: It's ™ protection, and there is an prominent "MLB.COM" logo atop the site to which it's URL forwarded ... and, in part because it's not fully developed, I don't think it's made one dent in the adoption of the ".TV" extension in its attempt at awareness / aftermarket valuations, IMHO. :guilty:

Just my two sense,
Jeff B-)

Golf.us - Golf.com
Mlb.tv - Mlb.com

the second 1 in each case is the 1 you will remember, unfortunetly.

ofcourse mlb.tv has more "viewers" but redirects are no good for the development/future of any extension.

Ten-four EQ...it seems that MLB knows the worth and value of the extension and knows how to market it. If it was mere protection they could have redirected without fanfare.

mlb.TV!...I LIKE IT! and they promote it, don't care where it goes...I LIKE IT!

Hmmm, Major League Baseball, the enduser, markets product extensively to the consumer as MLB.TV...ergo, MLB.TV is what the CONSUMER will remember.

.TV, I like it!

That is simply not true (to the extent that you believe, IMHO) ... they will remember their "MLB" and then are assured that they are at the right place with the very prominent (and identifiable/memorable) MLB.COM logo! :yell:

Best,
Jeff B-)

Something is askew here...
If that is the case, why spend time(and yes, money) promoting MLB.TV?

Makes no sense, but hey...I LIKE IT!

MLB.TV...I LIKE IT!

Wrong again but keep trying. On ESPN and everywhere in print it says Mlb.tv. WHich tells all the people out there, oh MLB.tv. Redirects mean nothing to someone watching comcast seeing Mlb.tv but keep trying. At the end of the day that's what matters the exact opposite of your opinion on the situation.

At the end of the day and realistically speaking (insofar as meaningful, measureable results for the ".TV" and its developed "ecosystem"), I believe your point is again only wishful thinking ... but it's certainly OK to have different OPINIONS and to agree to disagree, respectfully. :)

Onward and upward,

No my point is about Mlb.tv. I have no wishful thinking, I don't need any wishful thinking, I have bought and sold .tv and made money. This is not charity or public service or anything of any great significance. Domaining is a micro activity on this third stone from the sun, insignificant to most of the world. Jeff you have some strange obsession with the extension. Domains are to be bought and sold, or to be used to develop websites.

Bottom line, more people heard about .tv because of MLB using the extension, they don't know or care what a redirect is, only people with too much time on their hands and not really interesting lives care about that Imo. MLB.tv is used because MLB sees value, otherwise they would just use MLB or MLBtv.com. But keep trying.

Equity has the right of it, imo, but, long term, I still suspect the day will come when we see the professional sports with their own extension. tigers.mlb , colts.nfl, etc. That gives complete control of the extension to the owners/league, arod @ yankees.mlb, etc., it also structures the teams into a pattern, allowing for surfers to 'guess' where their favorite team will be located ( hmmm, jets.nfl ) JMO. I do think there will be heavy usage of .tv -because- of its ease of brandability, but it won't be the only option.

The more they promote .tv in ads, the easier it is to make a case for value in the extension as we resell. There's just no valid way to argue that.

Of course, they could always be planning an online channel, tigers.mlb.tv...

I agree Tom, it makes sense for the NFL,NBA and Mlb to get their own extensions imo. You control all the content, have every team and you basically let the fans know that the official sites are team.nfl or team .mlb. etc...

Because of their ™ (trademark!) ... I have no doubt that they will similarly protect, heck even "promote", an eventual MLB.WEB (whether in the example of the highly brandable .WEB or something like MLB.MLB), IMHO. :gl:
The fact remains, it's still only another simple URL Redirect!

All the best,
Jeff B-)

No the fact remains the world sees MLB.tv. Most of the world does not know what a redirect is as shown by the room I am in with 20 people and not one knew what a redirect was. But Mlb.tv just came on Espn. Keep trying.

It is small beans. The site has been around for long time and going onto playstation isn't really going to change anything for the extension. As I've said in the past the fact that people would start a thread about something like this says alot for the extension, it is a niche.

mlb.tv - I like it...and the popularity of the .tv extension is growing, not shrinking.

Now. Tomorrow. Next week? On thé PS3?

MLB.TV is a SERVICE and NOT A DOMAIN… how hard is this to understand?

This has ZERO to do with the thread.

Source. Or is this OPINION. Have you actually used MLB.TV the service? Do you have insiders in the MLB branding / marketing offices?

Golf.us - Golf.com
Mlb.tv - Mlb.com

the second 1 in each case is the 1 you will remember, unfortunetly.

ofcourse mlb.tv has more "viewers" but redirects are no good for the development/future of any extension.

No. The service is MLB.TV. They are selling MLB.TV. Their web presence is still MLB.COM. Their ON DEMAND VIDEO STREAMING service is MLB.TV

They are TWO different and distinct things.

I'm sure if they wanted you to purely remember mlb.com they would have CALLED it TV Streaming over mlb.com or something ?! No?

So let me explain. The VIDEO SERVICE is MLB.TV. They happen to have a matching domain to this branded service. Their web presence is MLB.com

TWO services. TWO brands.
Because of their ™ (trademark!) ... I have no doubt that they will similarly protect, heck even "promote", an eventual MLB.WEB (whether in the example of the highly brandable .WEB or something like MLB.MLB), IMHO. :gl:

All the best,

Please put this in the .WEB forum... oh wait... it's a NON MOVING extension :imho: :gl: :STFU: (Oh sorry, I thought that was an icon)

Another nice thread. Ruined. Jeff is going BACK on ignore.

I even got:

"You have included 11 images in your message. You are limited to using 10 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again."

I guess in its own way NP is trying to stop me quoting the j/a.

Who said it was shrinking? I would guess the extension is growing, but that could be said of pretty much any tld.
