This might seem obvious to a lot of us, and I have never before made this mistake until I noticed it yesterday. I bought a domain almost a year and a half ago through auction. It was pushed to my Godaddy account and has been sitting there waiting for me to develop it or market it.

I got into my account because I wanted to start parking it, realizing the value of the generic term and the potential I wanted to test it out. What I found was that the previous owners DNS were still on there! Not mine! So for almost a year and a half the previous owner was collecting parking traffic off my domain!

It may not seem like such a big deal and not much may have been lost but it could have easily been my fault for squatting if the name were something easily confused with a trademark.

Yes. You normally need to reset the name servers after a domain has been pushed to you.
