Someone initiated transfer on my domain

Someone initiated a transfer of one of my names via godaddy, and godaddy now wants me to click to confirm or deny the transfer.

Would it be okay to ignore this notice? What happens if I neither confirm nor deny the request?

I think (I heard somewhere) that if you don't decline the transfer request, it actually goes through. I could be wrong, I just remember hearing that.

Can you see the transaction in your godaddy panel (to make sure its not a forged email).

Ignored requests *should* default to deny, but it takes like a week to timeout. I'd deny it right away and then ask godaddy who initated it (you'll probably get them quoting you their privacy clause which they have done to me in the past over various matters).

Think about that logic, people would be hijacking domains left and right. It defaults to deny.

Yeah I understand that'd be completely screwed, I've never been in this situation before. I just remember reading (or dreaming :gl: ) about it. :|

Just deny the request and make sure your name is locked.

There's no trace of it in my godaddy account, of course, since I didn't initiate it. The GD email said "ACCEPT or DECLINE this transfer request by clicking here." But when I loaded the godaddy url provided, there was no option to decline, just "To accept a domain transfer, begin by entering the information from the email that you received."

I'm not going down that rabbit hole, so I emailed GD support instead.

Can't deny the request, since GD does not provide that option from what I can see. Also, since its a .us, enom (where it is registered) does not provide a lock. I don't think locks work with EPP transfers (.info, .biz, .us, .org).

The point I know is no matter what, if the administrative contact (email) doesn't accept the transfer, the domain will not go any where period. It stays with the original owner.
However the bad guys try to snatch it away from the owner transfer doesn't go through.

Junkie.

I recently got an "unwanted/Unauthorized" transfer from godaddy and I just ignored it and did "nothing" and it was automatically cancelled and I still have the domain in my account. No worry!

I was assured by a godaddy rep on the phone that If I don't respond, nothing happens and Request is cancelled.

I am not sure why some people initiate these requests without the owner's approval. I guess they have nothing to loose; on the other hand, you may mistakenly approve the transfer.

It may be that someone did a typo and mistakenly types in your domain name. Lets say someone is trying to reg abcdef.com and instead types in acbdfe.com

I would not worry about it being a hack unless it happens a second time.

Hope this helps:)

Do you mind sharing with us what domain name it was??

I've almost initiated transfer of the wrong domain myself a couple of times (typed wrong letter), so it might just as well be that. :)

So if you arent at your computer for a week and somone ask for a transfer it goes through??

I think it automatically denies.

This was no typo. The GD email said:

We are seeking approval of a transfer request, initiated by Jean-Claude Wolff on 4/26/2004, for the following domain name(s):

WOLFF.US

Google says that this guy is a famous musician. Now if only GD would give me Jean-Calude's email...

Oh, now that was a good one! :hehe:

I've actually gotten transfer requests for names I didn't/never owned. Try and figure that one out!

Wow armstrong - I think that looks like a clear attempt at hijacking their - let us know how this goes tracking him down for an explanation. I have had a couple of attempts at hijacking made on some of my domains and luckily haven't lost one yet but I was never able to track down the culprit.

Good luck!

Heh, I learned quite a bit from just reading all these posts from you guys. Some people just don't know when to stop trying to hijacking names that don't belong to them.
