i had emailed monte from moniker- i asked him about having a .tv auction- following in the footsteps of sedo hosting the mobi auction-
i tired to get the point across about an open auction, not "with" demand media- but this is what he wrote:

We have started speaking with them about doing this as well as other niche extensions and industry auctions.
Thanks for the message and the thoughts. I sent a message to demand in the summer about the idea.

well, i tired- i think it is a bad idea for anyone to do one with demand media because if they put up their premiums, at those prices for reserves, there are gonna be a lot of names NOT sold, and it is going to look like a failure- :'(

Maybe they will put a few up with low premiums for the auction, just to test the waters....

well, i was trying to show him how many fantastic names there are that are not 10 grand a year- this would have been good for him too- but i am afraid if he partners with demand- i think demand would JUST put those premiums in- and that would suck

I agree with smash 100 percent

Thanks in thinking of us and emailing Monte

If demand is so eager of getting rid of those names, they can almost run there own auction themselves

Really hope Monte dosent team up with demand. I don't see any positives into this

I am curious has anyone emailed sedo on this and do there own .tv auction. I think sedo would be a tiny bit of a better route to take, look what they did with the mobi market sales and etc. Do a sedo auction of 100 prime names or so and go from there.

I would email them but I don't have an sedo rep and just recently decided park 70 names with them

sedo partnered with mobi- those were not domainer owned names so i dont think they would do an open auction- that would mean partnering with demand again, selling demands premiums- not ours-

i was trying to get another vernue for us-

Ignore my sedo remark

I just learned this, sedo is so anti .tv from a name pros member

I didn't know this. Learn things each day.

So moniker is it I guess. I would be happy with moniker after all.

Hi Smash,

Don't get "pissy", get smart.

By even having an .nu auction and choosing to TOTALLY ignore an extension that also has two letters(tv) but has been positioned in the collective minds of not only our society but other societies worldwide as well, they are in effect conceding the superiority of the name in terms of brandability on a media and social context and banking on cashing in on other extensions while they can(Make hay while the sun shines, however briefly).

Consider the immediate future, when the internet and HDTV will converge, and yes, it is going to happen. The silence is deafening on the part of Sedo. That is okay. More for me as we deal with the Media companies interested in their extension and cut out the middleman(sedo). Thanks, Sedo.

All I was really saying, Smash, is that we do not need "sedo", they need us. :hi:

I do not believe either side needs one another .tv is too small of a niche for Sedo to care, besides the fact the people who run SEDO are negative on .tv and rate it a sell.

Secondly according to Verisign when I spoke to someone about getting Tuvalu involved I was told they have no say over how the extension is run, if they did for all of you who own adult domains they would be forbidden.

of course we need each other- and .nu is what.... a huge niche???

i dont believe a word verisign says- i believe they are screwing over tuvalu, and would say anything they needed to-

You are right let me rephrase I do not believe I need SEDO or SEDO needs me I cannot speak for other domain holders.

I believe Verisign is screwing the extension not TUVALU who made a deal of their own free will with Dot Tv corp when it was IdeaLabs and they have profited from that, so for the claims of Verisign screwing Tuvalu outside of unverified accusations there is no proof of that. Tuvalu like everyone else wants to make more money and probably think Verisign should give it to them.

I concur, 100 percent with this statement. Tuvulu made a deal, period. Nobody twisted their hands at the table and they must have been happy else they would not have agreed. After the fact, Tuvulian greed has come into play, imo. We would all love to take back domains we sold that someone else is now profiting on considerably but we cannot. Nothing to feel sorry for, it is called an exchange between two parties and each got what they wanted else there would be no agreement. There are plenty of islands making squat on their respective extension who would bend over backwards for Tuvulu's current deal.

In regards to auctions, I think a little more time is needed before the masses are ready. While acceptance is growing, it is growing in tune with developments that are arising. As this happens, traffic will increase to generic .tv or keywords and the timing will be right then for an auction. Everyone must remember that Moniker and others make monies on commission and moreso on big ticket domains at the rate of 15 percent. The 200, 300, 400 dollar domains then sell in their silent auction are just extra and they cannot survive on those alone I doubt.
