So I wannabe a domainer...

From my SEO days, I have a portfolio of over 200 domains. Most parked on SEDO.

I'm setting a goal to really understanding the domaining industry and becoming a domainer. I hope within 2 years I've met these goals:

1) Purchased my first premium domain ($XX amount of revenue per day)
2) Bought my first type-in domain
3) Cycled through $100K worth of domain brokering deals (in and/or out)
4) Built a Million Dollar profile

But how I get there, I really don't know and am asking for your tips. What would be useful to me are tips on the following:

1) Best method to grab a dropping domain FIRST - it seems like I try to snap one within seconds of the domain dropping, and somehow I'm always beat to the punch. How do you do it, drop gamers?

2) Best parking strategies. Who are the companies to work with. I feel like I'm missing out by defaulting to SEDO everytime.

3) Should I build a "portfolio site" to showcase each of my domains on?

4) Where are the best places to sell my domains.

5) Where are the best places to buy premium domains (besides NP, of course!)

6) Would building traffic to portfolio sites help my cause or be a waste of time. (i.e. I own several directories, should I list my portfolio names?)

7) Is there a such thing as SEO for parked domains?

And any other ideas that can help me get started. Anyone care to jump in with some friendly advice?

Myself I never had any real profit just parking domains at SEDO. If your domains already have traffic or are type-ins then possibly yes some income but you are losing out from being indexed by the search engines for additional traffic & page rank. I moved many of my domain names to the content-service WhyPark and doing better because they can be indexed, can add various ad network and affiliate programs to earn 100% revenue and can customize & add pages. If each one of your 200 domains just even made a $1 per day, then that is a pretty good income and a goal that can be reached. So certainly either make some mini-sites or use a service like WhyPark where you have the potential to make more, rather than be restricted by just parking them and share the revenue.

1) Best method to grab a dropping domain FIRST - it seems like I try to snap one within seconds of the domain dropping, and somehow I'm always beat to the punch. How do you do it, drop gamers?

That is something really hard to do and you're competing against companies wich are VERY successful in acquiring domains on the drop.
You should look into Pool.com and Snapnames.com to find some fresh dropped domains.

2) Best parking strategies. Who are the companies to work with. I feel like I'm missing out by defaulting to SEDO everytime.

Focus on solutions like 1Plus and Whypark to receive better results then Parking providers like Sedo.

3) Should I build a "portfolio site" to showcase each of my domains on?
Some people do and some don't, some people don't like to put down all their cards on the table.

4) Where are the best places to sell my domains.

List the ones you want to sell at all the places you can find, forums, Sedo, Afternic.

5) Where are the best places to buy premium domains (besides NP, of course!)

You could check out other domaining forums such as DNF and DomainState and of course Sedo and Afternic

Research which domains you would like to buy keeping your budget in mind and make a list and see what comes up if you enter those domain into your browser.
Is the site very much alive or is it just sitting there with no activity at all?
Contact the owner through WHOIS by giving him a call or sending an email.

Know what you want and at what price is just as an important question as where to go to find what you want and at what price.

6) Would building traffic to portfolio sites help my cause or be a waste of time. (i.e. I own several directories, should I list my portfolio names?)

Creating back links is never a waste of time and if you park your domains with 1Plus or Whypark you benefit from the potential extra traffic.

7) Is there a such thing as SEO for parked domains?
Sedo and providers like that don't offer much as far as it goes with SEO but 1Plus and WhyPark provides more freedom to do so.

And any other ideas that can help me get started. Anyone care to jump in with some friendly advice?

You know what you want and that's a good thing but don't set any goals for yourself that is too much to handle or to even achieve.
Small piles stacked on top make a big pile.

- Don't stop developing - Develop to whatever level you can develop

- Content Parking Solutions, what the heck let's make it an unofficial acronym :) CPS is the future of parking in my opinion and will do far better then traditional parking solutions so move in that direction. And come to that point all your idle domains are parked the CPS way.

- Keep visiting the forums
- Spend your money wise and research before you buy domains

I'm sure more tips will be provided or can be found searching the forums but here is just my 2cents for you ;)

Hi Rocko,

All i can say is visit the websites www.1Plus.net and

WhyPark.com (<-- This link brings you to a page where you can you can sign up for one domain to do a test run and see if you like it), and try it for yourself :)

Visit this thread to learn more about 1Plus.net and take notice of Ian's last post in this thread.

Some great updates in the works and completed.
I'm going to move a bunch of domains myself to 1Plus.net this weekend.

There is also

something being offered by Kevin from BigTicketDomains.com but what he offers seems all a little vague.

But you could always contact him to learn more although this is something that shouldn't be necessary since he should have made things more clear.
I don't know even the official URL of this site if there is one that is?

These are the options i know of and 1Plus.net is the only one that is totally free.
WhyPark.com can be used for 100 domains for the cost of a one time payment of $100 USD and is for a lifetime.

And the one provided by Kevin cost you a $350 site set up fee so if i understand correctly this is per site which is of course outrageous for what is actually being offered.
Perhaps you do get something of value in return but there is not much to go on.

So far as i can say these are your options and you should see for yourself which Content Parking solution gives you the freedom and features to get the best out of your domains.
