Hi everyone,

Quite confused with the actual 'selling part' with domains.
I think the domain is pretty decent and certainly should be of some value.

Can anyone help a newbie out? What are my options here?

Naturally I'm looking for the best value for the domain name (not in hurry selling) and looking for the safest way possible conclude the transaction. I just have no idea how the process is done either. :D

It's not so valuable because of the extension, however it's not bad, but don't expect high offers.

I think you should start reading the forum, there are a lot of informations useful for beginners, read read and read.

That's my question!

Actually, the answer to that is everything. NP is an invaluable resource to noobs and experts alike. It's a nice name with a not so nice Colombian ccTLD extension. Most people wanting the domain would want it in one of the major gTLD extensions, .com being the best. Since it's a mismatch of English name and Colombian tld, I think it's going to be hard to find a buyer. But as I say, it's a nice name, you might find someone wanting to develop it in the .co extension. You should definitely read the How to find an end user thread (I forget the exact title, but it will be obvious). It's a very long read, so it might take a week to get thru it.

Thanks for your reply!

The problem is, as a total noob, I have no idea where to even start the search on the forums. There's plenty of separate areas here. I was hoping for some certain basics how to find a buyer, how to valuate (what kind of offer should I accept), how to actually do the transaction itself etc.

There is a search box if you want to find threads. You see that, right? Top right, under the menu. Although it's unreliable, Estibot values the domain at $640. You should only accept an offer you are satisfied with. You should do the transaction via Escrow.com.

Also, you shouldn't commit to just selling one domain. You should do some research and invest in more domains to expand your portfolio. Of course the bigger it is the higher chance you're going to have of landing a sale.

Sure, but I'm not trying to be a car vendor, instead just selling one (or well few) pretty decent cars. :p

Yeah, I do, but randomly searching threads where you have no idea of the acronyms, terms and such in hopes to find an useful post, doesn't sound very promising...That's the reason I'm trying to get some help from here.

So Escrow.com is really the only safe option?

Why is .co thought to be "worse" than .com?
My logic was that as everyone knows .com, .co would be "nearly as good", as it's the same, you just type it one letter quicker. :)

That's just it. If you don't want to spend the time learning how to find end users, nobody can help you. I'm recommending you read the whole thread, not just pick and choose the posts. It's probably the most important thread on NamePros. There's a NamePros Dictionary thread on the beginners section if you come across any terms you don't understand.

Of course there are others, but Escrow.com has never failed me.

Your logic is with nothing as a noob. You should go to the ccTLD thread for .CO domains and read that.

If you are not prepared to educate yourself when the material is available, I'd suggest you give up domaining, before you make any more errors in logic which might cost you.

Huh? More errors in logic? I'm pretty sure I'll fetch the $20 for the domain that it costs to keep / annually. :D

I also thought that coming to a forum dedicated to domain selling, picking a "noob area" is exactly the right area to ask the actual questions.

If I wanted to just Google stuff, I suppose I could. But problem is finding relevant and accurate information. Thus I'm here!

You come to NamePros to learn about domaining, but it seems from your replies, that you are not prepared to put in the hard work necessary to learn about this business. I've told you to read the how to find end users thread from cover-to-cover, but it seems you don't have any inclination to do this, so sorry, I cannot help you.

As for pretty sure you'll get $20 for the domain, you might or might not. I think they actually cost about $26/year. Holding it for ten years would be about $260. It gets harder to sell every year. If you want to be pro-active, which I think you should be for this particular domain, you need to learn how to find end users thread, at a bare minimum. If you can't do that, I can't help you.

If you seriously only want $20 for this domain, then advertise it for sale on NamePros, either as a $1 start auction, or at a fixed price of $20. You may or may not find a (mug.. err) buyer. Or just start it out as a $20 start auction.

There is plenty of info out there on domaining. Yes, in order to do this business, you will have to do a whole lot of reading, and watching vids, etc... Sign up for newsletters, and read, read read, then read some more, then watch some more. Pay attention to what is selling for what, and what's not selling for hardly anything...Take notes even if need be.
I would say start at domain sherpa, domaining, domain shane, etc...They all kind of tie into one another, and are easy to find through one another usually...
Also sign up for namejet newsletter to see what's selling for what...
You will learn, think you got it, get stuck, then learn some more, think you got it, then get stuck again..It's a process!
I have been reading and studying this for almost 2 months every waking day for hours on end..It's not brain science, but there is stuff you need to know to avoid costly mistakes, (Such as TM's), where to find them, etc.. etc.. etc..Then figuring out what your next step is..
As far as the selling aspect of it, and finding the end user, you will have to research them, and you can learn a lot through reading and watching vids on how to do this.
Hope this helps, and good luck to ya!
