i got the domain dynalogiq dot com

a company sent me a mail about it, asking me how much i want for it.

have read a lot about selling to end users for a higher $$$, but these are middlemen looking for websites/brandable names/domains to develop, i suppose.

saw they're selling brandable domain names at brandbucket for lots of dollars, and i dont know how much i should ask as a start of the negotiation.

any ideas/suggestions?

thanks for the help.

Unfortunately this sounds like an appraisal scam. They will ask you to get a paid appraisal done for your domain. They'll supply the links to the appraisals they'll accept, after you get the appraisal done they will disappear because they are the ones actually getting the money for a useless appraisal.

Do a search on this forum and you should be able to find a copy of a similar email that you recieved that is associated with an appraisal scam. People don't approach you to buy that type of domain a couple days after you register it. Hopefully you haven't paid for an appraisal yet.

With the above warnings in mind, they may want the domain for a client, and that is likely I think. Still, you should not lower your asking price too much since there is no reason they have to make more than you on the domain.

The uncertainty is a killer, so figure out what price would be the lowest you would take to sell the domain. Now you know your bottom line, after which you will keep it. Then pick a higher price that would make you satisfied and a little happy. Now pick a higher price that would put a big smile on your face. If you are not being unrealistic you should have your starting and bottom prices, with a price in the middle that should be possible. But of course it depends on what your buyer thinks.

Try to not start too high, but start high since you can always lower your price, but not raise it.

And if you should name your top price and the buyer says sold, don't be unhappy because you could have asked for more. Be happy because it was your happy price. Next time you can ask for a higher happy-price!

Good Luck!!

You can let them make you an offer and just take it. This name is reg fee any day of the week (any offer is a great offer), and if you really do have an offer you need to roll it to them and start over with a new name.

I checked out their site and they don't seem to be a scam, but a company looking for "brandable" domains like yours. In fact they have a couple listed that end in "iq" likes yours does.

You could ask them to make an offer, but I wouldn't since they asked YOU to name your price. Look at the other domains on their site and see how those prices fit with what you want for the domain. Figure your price should be less than what you think they will sell your domain for.

Every time I ask a buyer to name a price they don't seem to like it. One buy refused to name any price and insisted that I do. "If you really wanted to sell you would say your price!" I pointed out that if he really contacted me because HE wanted the domain, he would name a price, since I told him I would not be insulted by any offer. He went away and I was glad. :)

So I would name a price you can feel comfortable with and see how it goes. Just act confident, but polite and friendly. You can even say it is your "asking price" which should let them know you will come down somewhat. Good Luck!

saw they're selling brandable domain names at brandbucket for lots of dollars,

Are you saying that it was brandbucket that contacted you or just saying that you used brandbucket to get an idea of asking price?

i took it as brandbucket was just an example

This "buyer" should be treated as the only possible buyer ever for this name. And letting them price it the best way to move it.

But maybe I was mistaken...? I guess the buyer could be selling at brandbucket, that part's not clear.

@nielsencl

I thought he's referring to BrandBucket itself as well.

@MasterMinded

I usually tell my buyers the price of the domain based on my impression, guts and the domain's potential.

If you think you might be overpricing just tell them that you're open for some negotiation that will help the both party to agree at the best price.

If they offer you a huge amount of cash let say 4 to 5 digit USD and asked you for an appraisal to know the exact value for them to resell it probably it's a scam =D

Anyway please update us on this, we are happy to help and protect you from scammers =p

GoodLuck!
