Snapnames , Pool and NameJet: Is your bid all you have to pay or not?

I have never won an auction on Pool, Snap or NameJet so far.

I am wondering now that I see some names going for less than $60, for example if I bid a name for $30 and I`m the higher bidder, is there anything else that I have to pay like in TDNAM (add 1 year reg cost) or not?

Thanks

I don't know about pool or namejet, however, I would guess they are the same as snapnames where you only pay what your highest bid is. Not only have I experienced this first-hand but I also asked a member of snapnames customer service when they rang me up to verify my number.

oh thank you, I`m right looking at SNAP now.

Do they ring too? Maybe only if you are in the USA/UK?

I`m wondering also regarding SNAP, I see many of the names are at little registrars. Did you have any problem or costs in moving out from those registrars?

Cheers

Explained about the $16 purchase in the L-L-L thread.

I have had about 5 small problems out of about 200. All you have to do is email them and they are very quick to help out. I emailed them 2 weeks ago about a problem and got a call 1 hour later!

Also as long as you transfer out of the small registers before your 90 days there are no problems but be careful as some small registers can charge large renewal fees.

Although I am in the UK, they rang me from America (at least I guessed so from the accent). To be fair, I put in bids for roughly 25 domains within 24 hours of joining so it might have looked a little suspicious!

I have only won 10 names off snap but so far there have been no problems regarding registrars. I simply transferred them all out of the random registrars to Fabulous.

Good Luck!

Thanks! Green rep for you too :)

Yeah no problems if you transfer out, which is what I do. Just be sure to be on top of it as some registers won't let you transfer out if under 90 days and I have heard they force you to pay big renewals. But I have not experienced this as I transfer them all out BEFORE the final 90 days.

good luck, Gary.

Oh OK now it`s clear :) Well , people must be lazy , considering you get a full year when you get these names , so after 60 days you can move them out.

Thanks

I keep them there for almost 9 months just in case I sell it before the years time (hence the 90 days thing) so it saves me a renewal fee of $8 but you have to be on top of things.

Well I have been doing some buying at Snap, recently did a xxxx one and no pun intended it actually happens in a "snap" lol

They dont charge you antyhing more than the final winning bid amount.

If you pay using paypal, they dont charge you anything extra for that either

The domain is transferred to one of their sub dealers or somtimes a totally different registrar like Answerable. I have had domains from them going to Enom, Answerable and various subdealers who finally are forwarded to manage.snapnames.com.

I got a call from them when i first started purchasing. I had bought like 7 domains in a couple of hours and one of them didnt come to me for 5 hours or so. Being a noob i sent a harried query and got a call back to confirm if everything was okay.

The domain you receive alredy gets renewed to an additional year.

umm cant think of anything else tho.
HTH.

I have not heard of this 90 days thingy, can someone else confirm this?

It is 60 days for a transfer.

Be careful with NameJet, minimum bid for a backorder is $70 and then they'll charge $30 for a 1-year renewal so you're looking at a $100 minimum.

Hello Italian Dragon,

None of them charge you an extra fee, only your bid. And by the way punchie, when you win an auction the domain is automatically renewed for another year at no extra cost, so it is not $100 minimum at NameJet.

Yes, some of the smaller registrars can be a pain. Some of them are based in Russia, Korea, Germany, and can be difficult to work with. In some cases they don't even have a control panel for you to use and you have to email them or call them for any kind of change. Also some of them are quite expensive for renewals. Make it a habit to consolidate all of your domains at Moniker or GoDaddy as soon as the 60 transfer prohibition expires.

When you transfer a domain to Moniker, for example, you will renew the domain for another year in the process. So it will cost you a 1-year renewal fee at Moniker, that's all.

As far as I have seen NameJet don't charge you $30 for renewal, that is included in the price you pay.

I've only won a couple there so far though.

Slightly off topic, anyone else notice that many names that have been placed on B/O at namejet continually change to "wish list" & don't make it to auction.

Its my own rule. I know some little registers charge upto $25/year to renew and I have read a couple threads of people not being able to transfer out of a register with 90 days to renew (fine print of some small registers). Like I said though I transfer all my snap auction domains out before 90 days (to renew) just to be on the safe side. I have not run into any problems doing it this way.

Its weird, I have noticed the $30 charge when bidding and then it was gone. Maybe if the bidding reaches a certain dollar amount the fee is waived. I only say this as I was bidding on o-p-s dot com and it showed the $30 but with one day to go and at $200 the fee was no longer showing up in the info.

My one question with namejet is why after an auction does it count minutes down in the minuses eg -1 min, -2 min etc.

gary.

I think those names may be pending renewal or deletion, hence why they are on a "wish list".

ie: I wish the current owner does'nt renew it and it drops ! :hehe:

Can anyone confirm that cos I'm just speculating/assuming :)

Yeah, this generally happens because the owner renews the domain at the last moment, before it drops.
