Smart Backordering - Read!

Many domains that are being deleted are worth about $20-$40, and it is not worth $60 to pay pool.com or snapnames.com.

I used to try to reg these domain names myself within minutes of a deleted domain, without backordering, but its very unreliable and I usually on get about 1-5% of the domains I want.

Then I started using GoDaddy and it works pretty well, but if anyone knows, can anyone tell me how speedy GoDaddy is? I know it's not nearly as fast as namesnap/enom/pool, but is it fast enough to register a domain name within 5 seconds to 10 seconds after a domain is free to register? I feel like I'm wasting 10 dollars whenever I backorder a domain with GoDaddy because it almost seems like I could register it myself faster sometimes. As long as it registers within 10 seconds, I'm happy - so does anyone know?

Furthermore, can anyone give me advice for getting these medium sized domains? They all disapear fast, but not through the big services or GoDaddy. There must be a better way to get them.

Your help is very appreciated and I'll reward good responses with Rep/NP - and even paypal cash if you give me advice I can start using.

Thanks!
Fem

Three pieces of advice:
1) If you won't be around at drop time, and don't want to pay Snap/Enom/Pool and don't think anyone else will either, then GD Backorders are fine, but not always a sure-fire way of getting a domain. Hand registrations can beat GD backorders (As some I had backorders I was able to hand-register faster at enom), although not always (And GD Backorders on GD Domains end up at TDNAM).
2) If you "lose" a domain at drop time, check back in 5 days time (See numerous posts by jberryhill in legal issues for the 5 days reason, if you're interested) to see if it has reappeared as "available". I've "recaught" a few domains recently for regfee that I would have paid many times that for on the first day had snap or other gotten the domain (Instead, it was probably traffic-tested and failed, thereby allowing my booty to grab it ;) ).
3) If you did want a name, don't visit a missed name directly until the 5 day period is up, so as not to give the experimenting owner any reason to keep the name. Instead, keep tabs on it through verisign's whois service (No spying, theorhetically).

Just my first impressions, if I come up with any others, I'll let you know :)

Many time there is no other option but to backorder them :td: Your chances of a successful backorder will be increased if you first find out which register the domain is currently registered with.

Then find out which registers are partnered with which drop companies - Then go directly to that backordering company to place your order. (of course if the name is any good you will probably end up having to bid against another 30 or more people :td: )

For instance - If a Network Solution name is dropping - Snapnames will get it if you place an order. If you placed that same order at Pool and someone else had placed it at snapnames - you will loose.

Alot of the time the domain is "passed" between registrar and drop company.

I only have a list of Snapnames partners if you are interested - maybe someone can help you with Pool - GoDaddy etc ??

PM me if you would like the list

Okay

Thanks for that, I'll try it sometime soon.

So my next question is: How do you know when a domain is going to be available?

I remember my days refreshing Godaddy bulk order over and over again... but I never really knew when most of the domains dropped. The ones I could get were scattered in a 30-1 hour time period.

Does anyone know the best time period to to to hand register them?

Thanks,
Fem

I also have the same question. Last time when I asked this question, I think the answer was no one knows.
