how does backordering domains work? has anyone successfully backordered a domain? Places like godaddy.com offer this service but i wonder if it works.?

Domain backordering is a process in which each registrar submits dosens of queries per second to the registry in order to be the first one which will put the "DN zone" for particular domain after it is deleted.
The first/fastest one who does it gets the domain.
To improve the success rate, professional grabbing services (like Snapnames, Pool, GoDaddy...) use several registrars to do this for them.
The key thing is to be the first one after the current (dropping) DN zone is deleted.
Thats all.
PS: Introducing WLS (which will do the grabbing on the registry level -// the one described above is on registrar level) will make this kind of querying obsolete for com/net domains.
Still, current way of grabbing domains will remain good for org/biz/info domains, where WLS will not apply...
