Are backordering services effective? Does anyone know a good backordering service that is reliable and doesnt cost that much?

backordering services are useless.. I feel that there a scam.

2 examples y they would not work.

- Some on backorders the same domain... what happens then?
- The owner re registeres the domain before it expires, causing you to pay more for another year.

You need to pay more than the normal pricing of a new domain if you backorder. Besides there's a good chance you still won't get the domain and in this case your money back and they will give you credit for another backorder which is useless if you don't want a different domain.

There are no guarentees that they will catch your name but there are things you can do to improve your chances. Most if not all the companies that offer backordering have a selection of registrars that are "partners" for ex - if the name is reg'd with network solutions then the chances are when it drops that snapnames will get it.
But that is just the start of it - If more than you have backordered the name you have to bid for it (sometimes into the thousands for the good names) !!!
If you are the only backorder then it goes straight to you for $60 which includes a 1 year reg.

As regards getting your money back - One thing is for sure - Snapnames DO NOT CHARGE ANYTHING if YOU don't get the name, yes I think other companies like Godaddy MAY give you a credit ??

Hope this helps and good luck in your catch :)

I wouldn't expect to land a premuim DN using backorder services,Mid level DNs you can get through the services. Not that i want recomend Pool or Snapnames,But those are your two best bets to land a premuim DN.

Godaddy will not refund (or credit) any money if you backorder a domain and do not get the domain.

SnapNames and Pool only require you pay if you get the domain. If more than one person backorders it, it goes to auction where you bid against the other people that also wanted it. For three letter dot coms, you can pick them up cheaper than trying to buy them (usually). The only thing I don't particularly like is the fact they get registered at the place where the domain was registered before it expired. So if you backorder 10 domains, you might end up with 1 domain at 10 different registrars.

I do not trust to any backordering. Waste of money.

Snap Names worked for me. But of course there were so many "other" Bidders
I didnt get the domain, Which had I just let it drop, I prob would have got it.
Just My 2 cents of course...

Ive picked up 2 3-letter domains at snapnames and enom, both have been perfect experiences. No Problems at all.

Almost all the domains I want I at least get an auction (I register all domains at Pool and SnapNames. One of the two gets them). I usually get outbidded because some I am only interested in if I get them at $60. If I get all the domains I have back ordered for just $60, I would owe $1.4 million dollars. I won't get them all, but even if I did, I would have one heck of a portfolio to get the money.

All I can say about those backordering sites that they realy have good insider bidders.
Almost no chance that you'll get your backorder without any bidders.

I'v got at least 7 keyword domains at snapnames without having to bid, I think the problem is there are so many good names dropping (quite often from people who have thousands in their portfolio) on a regular basis the ones who can afford to pay more all hang out there.
It is rare not to have at least 10 to 20 other people after the same name. :)

Hi, thanks for your responses...I dont know about Snapnames, pool, or enom but registerfly has a backorder service for $15 where you pay them first and you get it when its available. If you dont get the domain, you can always change it to another domain. what do you guys think?
