Depends on the first 4 letters.

Register it somewhere that a Grace Delete can be done (Dynadot (credit only), Godaddy (refund), Name.com(Not sure) etc). Then come back and ask again would be my suggestion.

If you think you can put up regular video content (news, programs, lectures, speeches, movies etc), then you can do it. Basically can the name be video content driven?

If you plan to sell something (products, services) and TV can be used as a mode of advertising, then too it's ok to register it.

After you register it, post it in reviews section, to hear opinion. If opinion is negative, make use of initial deletion period (usually 3-5 days), and delete it. Most of the time you will receive 85%-100% refund.

Generally speaking, don't spend any money on ccTLD .TV's ... unless you have specific, video-centric development plans! :imho:

All the best,

Actually, it's quite okay to purchase without specific video-centric development plans, if you want it, and you can build an affiliate program/site that generates money, all the better for it.

No one can anticipate what your experiences and intentions are. I like the idea of buying via a grace delete site, and coming back here for ideas about the domain. It's a lot easier to speculate when we have an actual keyword.

Why? Isn't domaining about making money? I've made money on .tv which include:

Adultdating.tv ($XXX)
TeenPorn.tv ($XXX)
Timeshare.tv ($XXXX)

Reg'd all at std. reg fee. Now if you are a 'full-time' domainer and have no other source of income, .tv can be dangerous because of the $20-30 reg fees (choose wisely), and sales volumes are typically low, compared to .com (waiting to see if the new pricing changes that over the next year), but for me it works pretty well, good supplemental income!

Get good keywords. You can register crap in .com and you may still have a shot at selling it, but you register crap in .tv, you are wasting your money.

Enjoy,

Eric

Although it is nice for the extension, you don't need specific video-centric plans for your name.

Since the name is purchased in most of the other extensions and in view of the absolute fact that the .tv extension is generating interest and are opening developed sites exponentially, there is no reason for you to harbour any doubts about it. If you know what you want to do with said purchase then full speed ahead.

Read through Roguewriter and tech.tv for comprehensive posts to the question that you posed for a better grasp of the situation you have. They seem to have a handle on it.

I have done well with that type of domain in the past, even without development, video-centric or otherwise. If you have some development plans, all the better.
