Should I continue with my new site?

Hi, I have spent the last 3/4 weeks on my new venture, It's basically a hosting directory which will allow members of the public to rate and review hosts. Hosts will also be able to add packages to the system which are then searchable by the public.

The only problem is that I feel once the site is complete (a few more weeks left of coding) will anyone take 3 minutes of there time to join and add a package to the system?

Demo: http://www.hostchecker.net/ (all external links have been removed for the duration of this thread)

Your welcome to test the system, however so far the user registration, add host and add package sections are complete.

You can start testing by clicking "Add a host" on the main page.

My problem is after getting 3 members of the public to BETA what I have done so far, they got bored after completing the "add host" section (This is about 2 minutes into the process). The entire process from joining the site to adding a package should take no more than 3 minutes.

Should I continue?

Thank you in advance.
Sean

It depends on how you promote it. If you spend enough money and effort on promoting it I can't see why not.

If I were a small host trying to get some publicity, I would jump at the offer to submit my package.

Since it's new site, I guess most won't bother.
Why don't you list hosting companies yourself initially?
Hosting companies will start submit once your site gets enough eyeballs ;)

Any new sites will have difficulties initially unless you have tons of money to promote.

I have found that it's difficult to get people to join or list themselves on a new site with little content.
The suggestion to add a number of hosts yourself is a good one. Personally I would list the major well-known ones, then email the smaller companies to offer them free exposure.
Don't give up, I think it's a good idea and once you get the ball rolling you should be able to make a profit from your affiliate ads.
Good luck with it.

It depends on how you promote your new site.
Its not easy to invite people to sign up for a new site, First thing you gonna do is let the people know it. If you have much money you can hire an SEO to do the service or you can do it by yourself if you can.
Good Luck to your new site.
Little by little people will visit it. It only takes time

Ok, thanks for all your comments, rep to all.

I have so far spent about a month coding this project so I might aswell continue it, I'm planning to open a new hosting company after I come off holiday in a months times, so I haven't got anything to do up to then.

I think it's a great idea to add some hosts that are less likely to join however big it gets like Hostgator, Godaddy, 1&1 etc.

thanks again.

I agree with HastyHost-Andy.

Promotion is the key thing in a venture like this.

If you could promote the site in such a way that you don't spend too much cash - yet you lure small hosting companies into buying packages off your site...its a win-win situation you're in.

Thanks again, a new project has come suddenly so I am going to have to sadly leave it for a week or two, hopefully I can continue in the future :p

Good luck then :tu:

...I do hope you go ahead and wind this up once you're free though...its a good idea and could help out a lot of people who're lost as far as hosting is concerned...including myself :p
