Just noticed that shoes.tv sold for 18k recently.

I always wonder what such a sale has on other 'similar' domain names. As most of you know, I own zapatos.tv (the Spanish version of shoes). Does this recent sale have any effect on the value of my domain name?

What about other sales and how they influence similar domains with the same word (but different TLDs) or the exact same domain in a different language like in my example above.

Any thoughts?

Probably zero real impact because the domains are different. Brandability it different. Search stats, demographics everything is different.

It can be used as a comparable; however, you're comparing apples to oranges.

It's definitely something you can reference in communication as a form of price anchoring. Even though it's not related, the big FIXED number has the effect of setting an anchor point. The comparison has to be pretty good for it to stick. If it isn't it could have the reverse effect (that's the most ANY domain has ever sold for type anchor)

Caveat Emptor: Just opinions. I'm sure people will disagree with me.

Thanks and I see your points.

It was odd because I had a few lowball offers before the actual shoes.tv sale.

I have zapatos.tv listed for 4k on Sedo and had been considering lowering the price UNTIL shoes.tv went for 18k.

Anyway, I would like to hear from some other folks, as well!
