Hi!
I've heard a lot of different things about SEO and I hope someone with 100% accurate information can answer my question:

Does age influence SEO? (Will a domain registered in 1995 will get a higher rank than a domain registered in 2008 if they are included in search engines at the same time and they have 100% similar content and SEO)

Thanks

older domain always have their advantages.

One of Google's search technology patents mentions that the age of the domain is something which may be taken into account in their search algorithm. That's all I can say with "100% accuracy".

Subjectively, it appears that domain age does hold some influence.

There is no definite answer to the OP's query as only the SE's accurately knows it.

Other more obvious factors (aside from age) that affects a domain in SEO are:
1. Having your keywords in the domain
2. If the domain expired
3. Number of times ownership was changed

Ok. Thanks a lot!

besides, that second website would be considered duplicate content of the first. ;)

seriously though, domain age probably plays a part in seo, but it isn't that significant ceteris paribus.

I think yes, the age of a site do matter. But the affect of domain age on SERPs is very little to other important factors like backlinks and content. A new site can beat old site, if more content and backlinks are build.

You see while buying a product people look for companies that are established earlier so it goes same with websites .. If a website is 4 or 5 years older then it will surely play a better part thn a 4 to 5 months old website

Yes, no, and maybe so... In several of our markets we have seen older sites rise to in the rankings with no apparent changes. So that leads me to believe that age again maybe be playing a role with Google.

Yeah google give weight to old domains because they took as reliable one. I saw many examples where old age domain got the preference even they have less backlinks.

but does that apply to those that have not been maintained and worked on as much as new ones?

i agree. New domains need a little more work then a domain that has been around for 2+ years

it has also been speculated that domains that have a further away expiry date will perform better than domains for example that only have a year.

The reason being that it is beleived if you register a domain long into the future you plan on having a long term commitment however if you reg year to year then it could be considered a throw away domain with no commitment.

An old and refreshing(!) website is just like an old and traditional firm in the market. The more time your website spends "in the market", the more it proves that it's working and it's trustful.
Google never forget to say: they reward trusted websites and You can see that in PageRank (which is an overall index number) growing too.

The question of age in the case of a static and "dead" website, which hasn't got fresh content is more complicated.
What You gain with age, You lose it with the only-static content, so You have to promote it harder.

I have read where it had not been in use (site age) for sometime, but it looks like it might be currently in use again.

Age of links

Also note that the age of the backlinks likely help in SEO efforts.

The age of backlinks + the age of domain name by SE (not the domain name) + the age of the content do influence on the SEO. Some ages I have mentored improve SEO some not

I don't think so.... no specific answer in your question... but for me, it depends upon how you optimize your site.

The longer your domain has been online the better. Credibility and trust are perhaps the two most important attributes a website can present as credentials for top search ranking.
