Selling to a Movie Studio

Recently I was going back through my portfolio. After googling one of my domains I noticed that there was a movie sharing the name listed as in production for a 2009 release. I've seen these kinds of stories where someone makes a big sell i.e.:iReport to CNN and who wouldn't want that.

So now I'm torn between this being a good time to brush up on my over-the-phone salesmanship or just waiting for them to make the first move. What do you guys think? Oh and to down any cybersquaters acusations, its been used as a personal site for a while now so it has a legitmate use. Thanks.

Usually movie names will go for mid $### to $1,###. Studios don't like to pay too much for them and they don't have a problem using hyphens or adding 'the movie' to the end of a name

Still not a bad deal considering what I payed for it. I may just hold onto it for a bit longer and see what comes of it.

I have one of these names too. A search of the domain's keywords brings up the 2009 release website (#4 on Google) on the still untitled movie.

Thanks for the reminder --- I've gotta get off my rear and contact the studio!

domain

If by any chance they don't want it. Have a list of your hobbies, movies being one of them and have an affiliate link to netflix or blockbuster if that's possible. If the movie turns out to be a classic you'll have traffic for years to come.

I agree with duceman. I visit official movie websites often esp. when the movies just come out and I've noticed that they don't really care how lengthy the domain names are...so they might not be willing to buy the domain from you at a high price.

I would have thought that if it is a popular movie, then alot of people will buy up the dodgy ones too.

Surely they have to buy one of them. They dont go for absolutely awful ones...

Sit back and capitalise on the traffic.

Yeah and who knows maybe someone who is buying the less than stellar names might think to look at whois and give me an offer. Yeah I think I will just sit back and see what happens, thanks for the advice.
