Selling Domains on SnapNames and Sedo

Hi,

I am considering selling at these 2 sites, need help though. Which is best? I don't understand the fee structure at Sedo, is it a minimum charge of $50 if your domain sells or am I reading wrong? Can a domain be sold thru Sedo that is registered thru Godaddy? Any insight on selling at these sites would be much appreciated.

RedRocketDomains, I will take a stab at answering your questions.

As far as which is best, many people will have different responses. Some have had great experiences with their deals at Sedo, while others have had customer service nightmares. From my experience, more people will see your domain (once it goes to auction) at Sedo, while SnapNames is largely a domainer forum for selling (of course, there are exceptions). In order to sell at SnapNames in regular format your names need to be with Moniker, but I believe that some auctions allow other registrars - hopefully someone else can clarify!

If you have your domains parked at Sedo (sometimes they require a minimum of 60 days parking) then the fee is simply 10% of the sale. If they are parked elsewhere the $50 minimum applies. If your domains are registered through GoDaddy you can definitely sell at Sedo - they do not discriminate against registrars.

I sold a few $xxxx names at SEDO, and the only downside was a little bit of a slow experience with the SEDO rep but it all worked out well....

Yes, the live auctions are the ones they let you submit your names regardless of what registrar they are at - but if the domain isn't at Moniker by the time it sells, then I believe they assess a $100 admin fee.

I looked into selling some domains via SnapNames, but their Moniker requirement made that a no-go. I won't get into all the reasons here, but in my view, Moniker is best avoided whenever possible.

Sedo is fine. Getting offers can be difficult, but the PushToAuction.com service can help (no association with Sedo) for low value domains that one is willing to let go for low as $60.

Sedo's category and homepage featured listings can be worthwhile for higher value domains, but sell-through is lousy (too many listings; poor presentation), so only using them occasionally with money you can afford to lose / write-off.

In regards to Sedo's minimum fee, some have reported by changing to Sedo's parking servers just before accepting the offer / starting auction has worked. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. For low dollar domains (under $500), it's often best to change to Sedo parking at time of listing to better ensure getting the lower 10% fee (for TLDs that its applicable to, such as .com, .net, .org, etc; commission fees for some TLDs is much more). For higher dollar domains, changing to Sedo parking has little to no extra benefit in regards to fees.
