I am new to the world of domains and such, and i have a few domains i want to sell. I tried signing up on sedo, but it asks for a vat number, and i have not got one :(. Is there any other site that has a similar concept as sedo, but doesn;t require that info?

I am thinking of selling on namepros, but how do you know it is secure and you are not going to be scammed. For instance, if someones buying a domain, and they ask for a payment (e.g. via paypal) and the buyer pays, then what happens if the domain owner doesn't transfer the domain to you?

And what about selling ebay how does that work. Same thing again, how can you be sure you will get the domain after you have payed for it (if you are buying)

Sorry, i'm rambling a bit :hehe:

I take it your in Europe because of SEDO asking for a VAT number. You can try listing it on some webmaster forums. As for how not to get ripped off, it depends on the value of the domain name but you may consider using an Escrow service.

What exactly is an escrow service? And how does it prevent scams and such?

If you are selling a domain, you are in a better position than someone that is buying. You can just make sure you have your payment before turning over the domain the the new owner.

But if you the buyer, your concerns are valid. I would say the more valuable the domain the more risk there is, but that's just my feeling. On here and most forums you should be able to check the "reputation" of the seller to get an idea if they can be trusted. Ebay also has seller feedback that you can check. For more valuable domains the escrow option should work well and on another forum that I visit, a seller just sold a domain using an escrow service and the buyer paid the escrow fees! You can pay the fee or split the fee with the buyer if you want.
