Sedo says they are serious about being the top domain marketplace, and yet they keep dropping the ball in the most basic way. Take this recent example: domain purchased, I inform them I'll be transfering the domain upon purchase, payment clears and I initiate the transfer. Lo and behold, they have changed the whois info, which means, of course, that there will be a 60-day wait until the transfer can be initiated to the new registrar. This is just brilliant, and, so, I declare: Sedo is S-m-r-t!

:) Just the way the cookie crumbles :) It seems like they do not tend to listen to their customers. But then again i stopped using them a while ago.

It's the equivalent of a new car dealer filling up your regular, unleaded tank with diesel and wishing you on you way...simply: they ought to know better.

Yes. Very much so :)

Why not just open an account at the registrar that it is at and have them push it?

I did just that, but, the point is that I wanted to move the domain to a registrar and told them in advance. Since I prefer to consolidate my portfolio at 1 registrar, I now have to wait 60 days - no big deal, but shouldn't have been necessary.

It would be nice. I still do prefer their system to the Snap Names system. I can't stand getting forced to use a tiny registrar that no one has ever heard of in a language not my own. At least Sedo normally uses the major registrars.

Well the people who list the names at the site determine the registrar - the escrow process is really what needs to be fixed.

Oh, I thought that you were saying that they already transfered it to another registrar and changed the whois. Maybe it was just good luck that I have had the pleasure of not being stuck with any bad registrars through them.

Ironically, I recieved an email today about a domain I sold. I quote:

Sedo Rep said:
Hello John,

Thank you for the e-mail.

It should be completed soon since you approved it, I will keep you update as soon as there is any info.

I respond back with a one liner:

"That'd be great, but my name isnt John"....

Its the simple things that make all the difference.

At least they just replaced Justin with John

They insist on calling me Domain... coz my email name is Domain Manager

Why do they insist on getting the domain to themselves first?

Depends on the registrar... not all do like godaddy fortunately. They likely know the peculariaties of each registrar.

Kate, I think you might be giving them too much credit.

Won an auction a few days back, sent payment immediately, 3 days later I get this:

Dear Mr. Monroe,

Unfortunately, Sedo must cancel this transaction as the seller is no
longer the owner of this domain and hence not entitled to sell or
transfer this domain.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused and
please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further
queries.

Best regards,

Sedo has some serious issues.

They can't seem to verify domains that I've submitted to them. I submitted bunch of dotcom domains weeks ago and still they are in process of validating whois info and then I get email that they can't verify if I am the right owner. Their system does not even scan for .PRO domains when searching and I had to submit a request for them to consider enabling it.

Disappointing

60-days is pretty standard for most accredited registrars, although technically it's not a hard requirement. And, yes, you're giving them too much credit: the registrar in question has a 60-day window period, so I'll have to wait.

I had the very same problem. But I managed to get 99% of my portfolio on site.

Solution -
1. Send email from admin contacts of your domains to them.
2. Send your entire portfolio via bulk upload.

Let me know how it works out.
