Sedo has changed user agreement and price list... again!

New announcement from Sedo:

- When you list a domain for sale, that domain is automatically promoted across Sedo’s Domain Marketplace, including the SedoMLS Promotion Network, where eligible.

- Commission prices for domain sales are now determined by the promotion channel through which a sale originates and range from 10% to 20%.

In short: If buyer comes from SedoMLS and not directly from Sedo.com, commission will be %20. Even if you didnt choose to promote domain via SedoMLS.

Seems like Sedos commision rates are getting a little tricky/ confusing in their rules for us...while they're trying to grab an additional 10% from us.

I disagree. I sold lots of domains in low-mid $$$ range, and was happy with %10 commission for fast and painless transaction to my paypal (I am talking about parked and fixed priced domains).

If someone goes to sedo.com (directly or through your parked page), find your domain and buy it there, you have to pay 15% commission, or 10% for parked and fixed domain.

If someone find your domain while searching for domains at, for example, dynadot (dynadot will list sedo domains which are similar to one you are searching for), that would be buy through SedoMLS channel - %20 fee.

Yes, but as I said, I am happy with fixed price for some of my domains. I am not happy with MLS.

So, basically, this is pure lottery - you put fixed price, park domain, and you will never know how much commission will be on your next sale - 10% or 20%. And with fixed price, you cant cancel negotiations if someone accept your offer.

If there is no way of knowing, then you probably will always have to pay the full 20% it seems.

I thought MLS was going to be optional, did they change that because no one signed up?

Careful with Sedo, IMHO they could be a hotbed for identity theft. That's my opinion, based on lack of industry oversight.

I did change a majority of them. I still have some left, but there's a lot of them so it takes some time. I focused on the ones that were parked, as those are the only ones eligible for the 10% anyway.

Everything else I've taken under my own control and redirect to a contact form, like the Rented.com offer link in my sig. I'll handle the offers through email or on the phone myself and use an escrow service for 3% instead from now on.

If anyone needs help doing the same, I'd be glad to help show them how I did it. Just send me a PM.

Sedo offers escrow only service, and so does Afternic.

To obtain escrow only pricing, it's important to NOT have the domain listed for sale at that particular venue - ie. if seeking Sedo Escrow only pricing, one must ensure the domain is NOT listed for sale there and NOT parked there (nor within in the recent past)...

And be doubly-sure you're getting escrow only service for the particular transaction prior to starting the escrow process to avoid any confusion regarding fees later on.

Escrow.com is good, but note they only hold the money, never the domain - usually ok, but something to be aware of.

Be very wary of Moniker - imho, best to avoid! There are other better escrow only services, as mentioned above - Sedo, Afternic, and Escrow.com.

You can use Escrow.com. There's also a MiniEscrow for small amounts that I've heard good things about.

I wasn't aware we should use Sedo as an external escrow service if our domains are parked with them, or listed for sale there. I will confirm this one first, and if true maybe just start to avoid Sedo altogether or view it as a necessary evil in some situations.

It's possible to avoid Sedo and still use them for escrow only service.

However, to do that, you must NOT have the domains listed for sale there.

As for fees, Escrow.com is far cheaper than even Sedo escrow only service ... under 1% verses 3%. Though Sedo does more - they can hold both domain and funds whereas Escrow.com holds funds only in most all cases*

* I just checked escrow.com's website - it appears they now offer a domain holding service intended for $75,000+ transactions for an additional $500 or so surcharge.

Be very wary of Moniker - imho, best to avoid! There are other better escrow only services, as mentioned above - Sedo, Afternic, and Escrow.com.

I'd agree with this even though I have not tried to use Moniker's escrow - their systems are poor and their support is patchy so doing a third party transaction with them is more risk than it's worth imo.
