    Hi folks

Wondering if anyone can shed some light for me. I've had a domain listed on Sedo for a couple of years now, a few months ago GoDaddy domain buying service contacted me as someone wanted to buy it. I then sold it.

However, a couple of days ago someone bought it on Sedo (which I hadn't taken the listing down for). I notified them that I don't have control over the domain and they're now charging me commission for the sale.

They sent their t&c's which states:

"In the case of a Failed Transfer, Sedo reserves the right to collect any applicable commission fee from that party who has violated his/her obligation to cooperate."

I feel I've fully cooperated - is there anything I can do here?

    Many thanks!

Hi look at Sedo's reviews on Trustpilot - this issue comes up there too.

Here is what Sedo said on Trustpilot on 12 March 2019 to someone raising the same issue as you:
    https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.sedo.com

So you did communicate with them and as they say, the fee is at their discretion and they will probably not charge it the seller communicates with them.

Their reviews on Trustpilot are terrible.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I did communicate with them that I no longer held the domain, that's what I mean by cooperating with them. I'll see what they say!

Looking at this the other way, I have bought domains on Sedo where they then cancel the transaction and say seller no longer has the domain. Sedo does not apologise in any way when that happens, and may delay returning your funds and even charge you for the privilege. So I asked them to confirm that they had charged the seller the missed commission, as they could reimburse me for my costs and inconvenience from that and still end up getting money for a missed transaction, in other words, money for nothing. They refused to say if they had billed the seller for the missed commission or reimburse my costs - they wanted me to pursue the seller for costs and compensation. Not a way to get good reviews.

You can point out to them what they said on Trustpilot and ask them nicely to not charge you.

If they insist on charging you, they can't get the money - others on Trustpilot have said that they just ignored the bills - all Sedo can do is close your account. If the account was important to you you'd have to pay to keep it, but there are more domain sales platforms than there used to be and Sedo is falling behind. Maybe they are getting a bit desperate - check out the thread about the hidden buyer fees on Sedo: https://www.namepros.com/threads/sedo-buyer-fee-transparency.1127733

    That's asinine!

Legally, you have nothing to worry about. They can close your Sedo account if you don't pay it, but Sedo is so inept that you wouldn't be losing much. I haven't made a sale through Sedo in years.

They didn't process any transaction, didn't transfer any domain, worst case scenario should be a $10 charge or something, and move on. They are just taking out their own customers, horrific. Just like all these confirmations on listings, 50% of the people just are going to stop listing. They have no communication with the outside world, just themselves. It is a shame, how a company so ahead of everyone else early on, is so out of touch with it's customers.

I hope people keep reporting it when this happens. It seems to be becoming much more frequent - Sedo say it is at their discretion, so how do they decide who to charge and who not to charge?

Sedo is a private company - how would we know if they are in financial difficulty and getting desperate?

    Hey guys

Thanks for all the responses. They replied today saying they will wave the fees, but if it happens again they’ll force it with legal action I guess?

Won’t be listing with them again though. It seems it does go by a case by case basis.
