Sedo forcing buyers to put a high offer?

I'm using sedo parking and i've put $15 as the minimum offer for all domains. Today i went into my own domain and tried to offer myself a $16 (just wanted to see how things work) , but sedo showed an error saying :
Your offer is too low.
Premium domain names typically sell for three or four-figure amounts, and sellers will simply not respond to a bid if it is too low. If you need help setting a price, you can request an expert Domain Appraisal. You are REQUIRED to enter a bid of at least 60 $/EUR/GBP
what the hell? i don't want to sell it for $60 , why are they forcing buyers to pay "at least" $60? they also claim that i won't respond for a low offer which isn't true.

Is there a way i can get around this?

Sedo did put out a notice of no minimum commissions on parked domains. I looked up the old email and found this:

NEW! No Minimum Commission on Parked Domains!

If your domain is parked with Sedo, you pay only a flat 10% of the sales price-- no more $50 minimum commission!
Please note this offer is only valid for US and Canadian Residents, see Offer Conditions for more infomation.

The above links to this:

Offer Conditions:

* Offer is valid for sales of the following TLDs: .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .name, .li, .be, .dk, .de, .at, .ch
* Offer is only valid for US UK / International customers.
* In order to be eligible for the commission reduction, a domain must be parked (and have received at least one view) before the buyer makes his first offer.
* Offer is valid until July 31, 2005. Sedo reserves the right to discontinue the offer at any time, with or without notice.

I think the page is only visible if you are logged as a user from the link in the email.

Looks like it's a limited time offer only lasting another couple months. could be that your domain doesn't have the required one view of the parked domain to be eligible, or they don't recognize you as from US or UK for some reason...or they've discontinued at without notice as they stated.

Hello, I'm new at this. Matter of fact this is my first time sitting in at NamePro's, but without sounding rude...would someone please tell me why you spent hours, days, or even weeks of valuable time searching registrars to find interesting domain names, and not want to sell them for more than $15 dollars? You do realize that Business.com just sold for $1.7 Million? I joined this sight to learn how ro make money with my domain names, not to sell them for less than I paid.
Any knowledge is appreciated...I'm all ears.
Thanks, Neo54
A valid question. It's really just basic math. You can register a name for $7. If you can turn that around for $15 you have more than doubled your money. If you do spend hours a day doing this then it will add up to a nice income.

Welcome to NamePros Neo54.

If memory serves correctly, I think you are 5-6 years late, and 6 million dollars short. That domain sold in 1999-2000 for 7.5 million, and was the largest domain sale to date at the time. Of course, those days are long over, and that bubble burst.

Granted, the market does appear to be making a comeback, but Business.com should not be the driving force or motivation for anybody to get into this field. For every big sale, there are thousands of names sitting unused, with no buyers and renewal fees adding up.

As primacomputer said though, profit is profit and even the small $15 sales add up.

Good luck.

It looks like there is still confusion between the minimum sale price of a domain and Sedo's commission structure.

The minimum sale price of a domain irrespective of commission is $60.

The minimum sales commission for most tlds is $50. The good news is for US/UK international customers we are running a promotion, eliminating the minimum fee for domains parked with Sedo. This promotion, flat 10% sales commission, applies to the sale of the following tlds when they are parked with Sedo .com/.net/.org/.info/.biz/.us/.name/.li/.be/.dk/.de/.at/.ch

Regarding nRnF's question, US/UK International customers are those dealt with by our English-speaking representatives.

Our complete pricing structure can be viewed in the "About Us" section of our site.

I hope I was able to clear up the confusion!

Yeah unfortunely though alot of the domains are not as good as ones you would find on Sedo. But, on the flipside they don't have any limits but that can also lead to chaos but if want to buy and sell domains the best way to do it is in forums and Sedo or any other site like them.

Different Question:
On trademark laws...if we thought of domain names and bought them before some large companies, why does that make us extortionists, instead of entrepreneurs.
Shouldn't it be the large company's job to invest as much time into protecting their names as we do to find a name worth selling? Should they be able to own everything with their name in it without having to make any effort at all to think of it?

I have always believed that the minimum is $100.

Me too! I recall trying to put something up for less than that and I got an email telling me $100 was the minimum.
