Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

HI Sedo please can you clarify which pages you are referring to? It's not clear, it would help if you listed the possible pages a buyer can navigate to and from, and gave them definitive names. It looks like you are referring to four different (types of) pages above.

For info, domains set to sl1.sedo.com, which are set to Buy Now, seem to show many offer views and almost no Uniques - how can there be Uniques if there is no Parking Page for that domain? What do those Uniques measure - do they refer to an actual page and how can we access it to see what it is like?

Many people find Sedo stats meaningless, but perhaps that is partly because it is so unclear what they are reporting.

Does this mean taken to checkout? From which page - do you mean from a search results page?
Hello,

Thank you for your follow-up question.

To provide more clarity, we are referring to the following pages:

Marketplace listing page: This is the page where your domain is listed on our marketplace, and buyers can click on the "Make Offer" or "Buy Now" button to proceed.

Offer Description Page (ODP): This is the page that appears when a buyer clicks on the "Make Offer" button on the marketplace listing page. The ODP provides more information about the domain and allows buyers to submit an offer.

Sales Lander page: This is a dedicated page for your domain, which can be accessed via a unique URL (e.g., sl1.sedo.com). The Sales Lander page provides more information about the domain and allows buyers to purchase it directly.

Checkout page: This is the page where buyers can complete their purchase of your domain.

When we say that buyers are "taken directly to the buying process, bypassing the ODP" when you switch your domains to "Buy Now", we mean that they are taken directly to the checkout page from either the marketplace listing page or the Sales Lander page.

Regarding your question about "Uniques", we understand that this metric may be causing confusion. To provide a better understanding of how Uniques are tracked for your specific account, we would be happy to provide a personal overview. Please reach out to us directly, and we will be happy to walk you through the details of your account and provide a more detailed explanation of how Uniques are measured.

We appreciate your feedback and acknowledge that our statistics can be complex and difficult to understand. We will strive to provide more transparency and clarity on our metrics to help you optimize your sales strategy.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
Sedo Team

Hi Chris, you're confusing URL with Sedo's nameservers here.

Sedo - Stop falsely advertising that a sale was made if you havent collected payment. My domain was "sold" on 8.3.25. Payment is still outstanding 9+ days later with several days of silence and no update in between despite my nudging. Do better.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. We apologize for the frustration and inconvenience caused by waiting for payment for your domain sale.

We mark the domain as 'sold' as soon as the seller and buyer agree to the sale, as this establishes a binding purchase agreement between them. However, we understand that marking a sale as "sold" does not necessarily mean that the payment has been processed. There are several reasons why the payment may not have been released yet, for example payment details are missing, domain transfer has not been confirmed, or other technical or administrative issues.

To help us investigate the issue further, could you please send us a direct message with the transfer number or the domain name in question? We will then ask your Transfer Agent to look into the matter in our Transfer Center and work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Best regards,
Your Sedo Team

This is not an issue of payment release; its an issue of no payment at all.

Guys it is time to fix your invoicing system

Our accountant gets mad seeing we invoice someone who did not pay us (as payment is from sedo and not buyer) and for amount different from what we receive (as there is the seller fee).

Logistically talking the correct option is to invoice sedo and sedo to invoice buyer

At afternic things are clear, payout transmital is from godaddy and with the NET amount
Hello,

Thank you for your message.

I think there’s been a little misunderstanding. Sedo is a marketplace where buyers and sellers connect to trade domains. When a sale happens, the contract is directly between you (the seller) and the buyer — Sedo isn’t actually buying or selling the domain.

We help by securely handling the payment and domain transfer, a bit like how eBay or Amazon Marketplace works for independent sellers. Because of this, only the seller can issue an invoice to the buyer, and Sedo can’t legally create one for you.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to [email protected].

Best regards,

Thank you very much for reply!

However globally accounting system from its generation works with the same way, everyone invoices someone who sent a payment.
With your system we are forced to invoice someone who did not pay us and for amount different than the received, at least at our accounting system is not so acceptable, eg invoicing someone in USA and receiving payment of different amount and from different company from Germany.
One change that could improve things is to send to seller full agreed amount of sale and also to seller a payment note with the fee in order to pay you, would be much more clear.
Of course i understand the way your business work, but at many other marketplaces they invoice buyer and we invoice marketplace for the amount received. Just no headaches to accountants.

Anyway thank you again for reply

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us about VAT collection. We want to clarify that the prices listed on our platform are still end prices.

As a marketplace, we do not collect VAT on behalf of our customers. Instead, buyers and sellers are responsible for their own VAT obligations.

If you're concerned about potentially losing money due to VAT, we recommend calculating your sales prices to include VAT. This will help ensure that you're not missing out on any revenue.

Please note that VAT regulations can be complex and vary depending on the country and region.

Best regards,
Sedo Team

As a EU company I have to collect VAT but you dont collect VAT, so using sedo (a EU company) is impossible for a EU seller.

If I price all my domains with VAT, even buyers who dont have to pay VAT will pay VAT and if I price domains without VAT I would have to pay VAT, even if buyers dont pay it.

Another things is that sedo dont provide the end user address, most of the time it's partner's address whereas you need end user addresses to know if you have to pay tax or not... good luck in case of tax control, had this tax problem a year ago and had to pay thousands due to sedo...
Ibhope they changed something but it seems not, now I receive domainagents requests nearly everyday as i dont list my domains on sedo, and i dont reply to them as they use escrow, another bulshit plateform for EU sellers...

Hi Sedo, thanks for the clarifications.

I take it that when you say "Marketplace listing page" you mean a results page such as you would get when searching for a keyword and getting multiple results, with a url like this:
https://sedo.com/search/?keyword=example

"Offer Description Page (ODP): This is the page that appears when a buyer clicks on the "Make Offer" button on the marketplace listing page" - this seems to be a simple popup which asks you to submit an offer. If you make an offer presumably it takes you to a further page to submit the offer and explain the terms?

I'm not sure why you are treating "Uniques" as being particular to a particular account setup - can you not give a general explanation of what activity they record? In the Sedo menu which I posted above, I see how many people viewed the Sales Lander page, as the domain is set to sl1.sedo.com and sl2.sedo.com.

So what page are they visiting to generate Uniques? Seeing the domain in marketplace search results? Seeing the ODP popup - but can't they only see that if domain is set to Make Offer, and it is not in this case. Or is this recording people who visited the Checkout page?

I switched domains from ns1.sedoparking.com to sl1.sedo.com in part because the sedoparking pages showed huge numbers of uniques which seemed not likely to be real. I didn't expect to see any entries in the Uniques column after making the change.
