Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

I had a weird thing happen with SEDO ... I was doing some routine portfolio maintenance and pulled up a WHOIS on one of my domains via DomainTools. Much to my suprise at the top of the page there was a note which read "This domain is for sale! Click here to purchase." I did so and was taken to SEDO, where there was a listing for the domain (I do not even have a SEDO account, let alone have any domains listed there.)

I ran through a sampling of my domain portfolio, and of 150 names found six that are listed for sale at SEDO. I can grasp the basic problem here -- many of my domains are drops, and it is reasonable that some would have been listed at SEDO at some point. But in the case of the one that originally caught my attention, I've owned it for running up on two years -- surely SEDO sunsets their auction listings at some point! No response to inquiries on the matter so far. I would hate to have to deal with some disgruntled person who actually bid to buy one of my names, transferred money to [wherever] then ended up tracking me down via whois demanding the name. This to me just seems like a ridiculous level of due diligence on SEDO's part, running active auction listings for domains that aren't even held by SEDO users and in at least one case have been unavailable for such a long time.

There you go, we are domainers and are having trouble navigating, I can just see potential buyers giving up and moving on. :td:

I've just sold domain at SEDO, but then received info from transfer manager:
{Buyer bugged out}
Have you had such a situations before with another buyers? Could you advise me what legal actions may I take? How about verdicts? Were the good for sellers? Where could be hearing? In Germany?

Thanks
Robert
Robert, I think the best thing to do is probably forget it. If the domain was very valuable (six figures) AND the deadbeat buyer has a lot of assets within reach, AND a court has jurisdiction that you can commute to, you might try to force the contract. Legal fees would start at about $10,000 and grow from there. A nastygram from an attorney is pretty cheap, it might intimidate them, but probably not.

Sedo will perhaps ban them, don't know how much the bidder cares or how hard it is to sneak around a ban.

There is another side --- what if the bid was in error? Say they meant to say $100.00 and the decimal was missed? It appears that they would be forced to "honor" the $10000 bid. Yet if Sedo messes up they get to "correct" things in their favor.

Short answer is that the bidder probably never had the money, was probably playing around and never intended to make the purchase. So, in reality, you never had a sale there.

fm1234 - Sedo is messing around with various ways of bringing in customers. Estibot showed, for a while, listings of the price a domain was being offered for on Sedo when you appraised a similar domain. Several seemed to be really good prices so I clicked - only to find it was a link to Sedo Brokerage where they would, for a fee, try to get you the name (which actually was a website and not in their listings), certainly for a price far far beyond the "teaser" price advertised. I think they stopped this practice, but it shows that they are trying to increase their brokerage business in many ways.

The likelihood of your domain ever being discovered on sedo, without showcase promotion is about the same odds for winning the lottery. Even the keyword search results have been narrowed. Surely this is another attempt to glean more profits from noobs.

Could well be the case, always had regular offers via Sedo in the past but all but dried up recently and my names are not that bad-I think.

Might even have to consider Afternic again. :p

I'm in the process of moving most of my parked domains from Sedo to Parked. Parked has a much better selection of images IMO (and even the option to upload custom images). Further, most keywords display relevant ads, unlike with my experience at Sedo. As an example, I have a domain at Sedo with the keyword 'Cars' currently displaying ads for 'Nuclear Energy Waste', 'Diet Patches' and 'Ask A Doctor Online Now.' In fact, not a single ad for cars! I can't imagine that the advertisers would be very happy either. What a joke.

Sedo Listing question Question

Sedo question

If someone has posted a name for sale at sedo with - Listing Price:ยฃ 90

Do they have to sell at that price if you offer the ยฃ90 or is it just a sneaky way of getting more bids and they can still counter with a higher price eg: ยฃxxxxx ?

Any ideas ?

Thanks

If the green button says 'Buy Now' it's fixed price and the seller is obliged to sell for that amount. If it says 'Make Offer' then the seller can counter.

Thats the only two options I'v ever noticed before, but this one just says - Listing Price:Euros 60 << I just edited the price from ยฃ90 <<<

...is this something new ? :-/

Sedo changed the wording slightly when they released the new design from 'Seller's Price Expectation' to 'Seller's Listing Price'. The new wording almost implies that the seller must sell for that price but in reality they can still counter, unless the green button says 'Buy Now'.

Hmm, that's pretty misleading as far as I can tell, think about it from an endusers perspective who might be interested in making an offer, who in their right mind is ever going to offer you more money than the "sellers Listing Price" ...in this case Euros 60 ?? :-/

The terminology does'nt make any sense to me at all if you're going to list it at the minimum price
(Euros 60) :-/

When Sedo used to have a 'Bargain Domains' section (they may still have but I cannot find it), there were some decent domains with 'Seller's Price Expectation' below market value. Some had previous offers, presumably at or around 'Seller's Price Expectation' but seller was not in a selling mood lol. Some sellers may use it as a way of gaining offers to raise the profile of their domains and elevate their position in the search results. The price can, of course, be removed at any time but the previous offers remain for the lifetime of the listing. I also think the new wording is potentially more misleading for potential buyers when a price is indicated.

Sedo misleading and screwing its customers over? That's nothing new

This is a very interesting point you bring up. As with any domain you have listed with any listing service it is important to setup your own marketing and promotion for it. We can not depend on others to do the hard work for us. When using sedo, you should think about it more as a platform to help with the domain acquisition and selling process.

How long did it take SEDO accounts payable to *actually* execute the credit note and pay you?
I'm set up for the bank transfer/ACH and curious if they will actually do it in the 1-2 days stated by SEDO. Details of the sale to follow after the money is in my grubby little hands. :)

Has anyone had a SEDO sale fall apart *after* the credit note has been issued by SEDO?
