Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

So, their optimization till not let us override with our own keywords?

It looks like, and that's probably the main reason many of us see significant decrease in revenue in our portfolios.
So all we need to know is, if it is some kind of test or permanent change, and if there is opportunity to shut it down.

My RPC is still good. I have not gotten a 2 cent click on Sedo in months. It seems that the minimum click on people with Sedopro and the full 30% bonus is now $.03. Anyone else with the full bonus notice the increase in the minimum over the last few months?

Dear SEDO:

I have a suggestion. As it is now, I get multiple notices that I have received an offer for a domain name. The problem is that your 2nd, 3rd... notices do not say that this is a reminder that an offer was made. So, I have no idea if it is a new offer or your persistent notices of an older offer. You should put in the subject of the message for these subsequent reminders, the word "Reminder:" so that I know I can ignore it. It seems that every day I get these emails and I have to continually log in top your extremely slow site just to see that no, it was not for a new offer, but yet another email on an old offer I didn't care to spend 3-4 minutes following up on.

Thanks.

Hi Slobizman,

This is something that Sedo has been looking at for some time now. The system will send out periodic reminders of pending offers. This includes new offers and those you may have looked but have not yet responded to. To avoid receiving these reminders, we encourage you to respond to any offers you receive with at least one counter-offer so the other party knows what range to work in. The system will treat any offer as "new" so long as you have not actively responded in some way.

We have this feature in place to help facilitate the negotiation process. We understand that many times, a buyer will bid much lower than their maximum budget for acquiring a domain. Also, a seller will usually counter much higher. With that said, it might be beneficial for you to give the other party a clear indication of your expectations, either in the form of a counter-offer or by setting a price or a minimum offer amount.

Hi All,

This is not a permanent change. Much of what your seeing may be the result of a test that Sedo had decided to complete. If your domains are part of this testing environment, your settings will be overridden by the auto-optimization tool, but they are not lost. The test is expected to end on May 31, 2008, and will help Sedo to improve the services we offer, especially as they relate to the optional automatic optimization tools. If you beleive that you are part of this test, please visit us at http://support.sedo.com and submit a request to be removed.

Hope that helps - take care all!

Always,
Keith

Cool - Thanks Keith, wish you told me that 3 weeks ago :|

You should really ask before doing so as some peoples domains "may" have a potential TM problem depending on what kind of ads they serve.

If you overide the keywords it could cause a problem IMO

That's fine with me, I can use all the help I can get with optimization. If you find my portfolio of domains does better with the new settings. I wouldn't mind if you changed the setting's permanently.

Personally, I think that the ads that you showed are very related. You can't expect for every single advertisement to be from the same company, or they would be competing against themselves. You have a domain that is a hotel brand name followed by the word hotels. They are showing ads that contain links to hotels. There are Ascot Hotels in Dubai, it is showing links to hotels in Dubai.

These actually make more sense than some of the links when you click on Ascot. Hotels near Ascot? Ascot is not a place, but a hotel brand name. Just because the advertisement includes the brand, does not mean it is more targeted. I think that many people on here would love to have ads this targetted when they complain about adult ads on their non-adult site, or something of that nature.

Finally, clicking on a related link, is basically the same as performing a search in the box with the related link's text as your search. It is supposed to show ads related to your search. You can try using just "Ascot" as your keyword rather than "Ascot Hotel", you may get less unique hotel ads, but I would bet you get a lower EPC also.

I appreciate your input but Ascot is a place (with at least 29 Hotels) in Berkshire which is why the second lot of ads are far more appropriate/accurate IMO.

Yeah I know there are Hotels using the name all around the world - I'll try just ascot and see if that's any better :tu:

My guess is Ascot was a place loooong before anyone used it as brand.

wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascot,_Berkshire

Ascot is a small town within the civil parish of Sunninghill and Ascot, in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Berkshire, England. It is most notable as the location of Ascot Racecourse, home of the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting. The region is split into three distinct areas: Ascot itself, North Ascot (partially in the civil parish of Winkfield) and South Ascot.

Guess your account is into this "testing" too ... that's why I moved all out until this is over.

I requested to be removed lets see if that will work... It would have been nice if they told us earlier :(

Google's not going to target you any better than that, dunno why you'd expect SEDO to. For my money, those as targeted ads as you are likely to get.

Regardless of which came first, the more common term for Ascot is the hotel company not the small town in England. If you want the ads targeted to Ascot, England, why not use "Ascot England" as your keyword. Or you could try "England Hotels". You have "Ascot Hotels", which is the name of the hotel company. The ads are pretty targeted for ascot hotels in my opinion. Tyr these other ones.

I recently got two bids on the same name at sedo. I responded with a counter offer on the first, but what do I do with the second? Because I am bound for 7 days on the first do I have to wait until that ends to counter offer the second?

Thanks...

I do not think this has to do with "testing".

Keith, could you please explain what settings are overriddern by the "testing" process. Is this test the template rotating thing, or something entirely different?

Thanks
