I received this notification from @Sedo, canceling my order because the lister was not the actual owner. Unfortunately, this sounds like a done deal to me. However, Sedo recommends taking legal action against the seller. Could anyone clarify what exactly they are referring to in this recommendation? Are there any other constructive options how to go about this?

means... we wash our hands do what you want at your own time and cost. some people may argue this is sedo fault for not removing old names etc.. but I guess they wash hands off that in TOS too

in short.. move on.

While Sedo does not explicitly recommend this approach, they acknowledge that it is possible. This subtly reinforces that any resulting disputes are strictly between the Seller and Buyer, and Sedo will not be involved. Most Sellers / Buyers choose to accept their loss after receiving this disheartening news.

Interestingly, I experienced the opposite situation as a seller just last week. I won a domain in an auction that was still in the process of being transferred to my account, and I was planning to list it on Sedo. However, it remained listed on Sedo by the previous owner. When I contacted Sedo, they requested proof of ownership, which I couldn’t provide at the time. For the interim, I just let it slide.

If the domain has a BIN,
• Hit the BIN
• Choose Wire transfer payment
• Message them and ask them if the seller owns the domain

Follow this method and there’s no need to send payment and wait for it to be refunded, which means you’ll lose out on time and fees.

Not much you can do if the seller doesn't have it or doesn't want to sell it. I've heard of several cases of sellers backing out when the domain being sold was listed for too low. I think it was usually a bulk upload problem where the wrong price is used in the related cell or the pricing was done programmatically. When the domain sells for too cheap, the buyer is like "oops, our bad - we don't have it :xf.wink:". You'll may see it relisted again in 2-6 months at a higher price in that case.
