.tv SEDO AUCTION - Something fishy!

The latest SEDO/GreatDomains Auction is now underway and there are TEN (10) .TV names in the list (including two of my own I'm happy to say).

I have a slight concern in the fact I see at least one name that I know to be a premium but is being sold 'as seen'. This is going to be one hell of a shock for the winner come renewal time. (and the offending name needs a renewal straight after the auction)

Why on Earth do SEDO still not insist on clarification of whether a name is premium or not? This BS happens every time there is a big SEDO auction

This abuse of the system affects the sales of ALL other .TV names as it puts doubt into the minds of buyers of .TV names.

PS The two that I have up for sale plainly state in the description that they are STANDARD renewal - and I see others doing similar. Indeed, I should give a mention to JohnTV, always the ultimate professional, who has FF.tv up in this auction and has made very clear that the name he is selling has a premium renewal (and its exact figure).

How difficult is it for others to mention the same if their name is a premium?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I believe they have a half ass disclaimer warning bidders to check renewal fees. Sedo should make it mandatory for sellers to list renewal fees on every .tv going to auction! This way there are no surprises.

I think it's a weak sale strategy not indicating what the renewal fee are...
They loose many bidders.
Also Sedo warning to check it but they did not say where...
For us it can be obvious but for an enduser it's not.

Yes, listing the appropriate renewal fee should be a requirement. I am also disturbed by SEDO's new search function which does not list exact match .TV domains along with exact-match domains in other extensions. Instead they are listed on some distant page or near the bottom of the list of search results. This decreases one's marketing exposure of such names. Fortunately Afternic and Godaddy auctions still include the .TV domains favorably. However, SEDO has normally been my best source of domain sales followed by Godaddy Premium Listings which doesn't allow .TV domains.

It looks like DE.tv has a $5,000 premium renewal and it already hit reserve. Since it does not mention that renewal and if the winning bidder does not know about that, I feel he has the right to back out. The seller of DE.tv should be required to list the premium renewal or the buyer has the right to cancel the deal IMO.

100% agree, renewal fee MUST be mentioned or buyer should have the right to cancel the sale. All in all such cases are a big minus for .tv market, hope will solved soon by Verisign and not from Sedo

I believe they have a half ass disclaimer warning bidders to check renewal fees.

Just curious, is there actually a reliable method for doing that now?

If it's regged from 18 March 2010 regfee it's normal.
If it's previous I think Ahead.tv still works good.
But it's too complicated for an enduser IMO.

There are only TEN .TV names in the auction

de.tv
ff.tv
2011.tv
largescreen.tv
paytv.tv
pilots.tv
serb.tv
sign.tv
tune.tv
videospiel.tv

Can I confirm for anyone interested, that ONE name plainly states that it a premium and the seller is to be commended for his professionalism:

FF.tv -$400 a year

Can I also confirm for anyone interested, that the following names are definitely NOT premiums, and command a normal/standard, roughly $20 -$35 renewal:

2011.tv
largescreen.tv
paytv.tv
pilots.tv
serb.tv
sign.tv
tune.tv
videospiel.tv

Any other .TV names in the auction I can not give advice on their premium status!!!!

How difficult is it for SEDO to ASK the sellers the status of the name. As good old Jeff might say: 'it's a legal nightmare waiting to happen'

I can confirm that Videospiel.tv (Video Game in German), which is mine, is at STANDARD RENEWAL.

And thank you for the pre-confirmation Jimbo!

If you look up DE.TV on ahead it'll tell you it's a $5k annual renewal D-: Not sure how accurate that is, but it has to be a premium for sure since the domain registration date is 2006!

Tune.tv is standard renewal, registered in goldrush period.

Btw de.tv is the 3rd highest domain in the auction @10.1K
It would be a great result for .tv if the bidders knows about the renewal fee..
