I know there are a lot of threads about singular versus plural names, but this thread is a bit of a variation.

I've just bid on a two word plural .com. Google search trends flat lines the plural, but the singular is on a rising trend, so it would obviously be better. Now here is the question - the singular is owned by Microsoft, and it redirects to one of their services. There is no trademark issue, as the two words are a simple phrase in daily use, and it is not computer or anything else specific. Does the fact that the singular is just a redirect increase the usefulness of the plural, and thus increase its value?

I don't use google trends (although admittedly I most certainly should .. lol).

But when choosing a domain, the better form (plural/singular) doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with trends (but the chances it does probably does go up to some degree). Sometimes it just might or might not work ... it really depends on the specific words.

Despite what people think, the plural can most certainly be a valid choice for a domain .. and actually can sometimes even be the better choice. Sometimes plural and singular make for different contexts and thus make both names valid for two different end uses.

Even the thinking that singular is for a brand and plural is for a directory or market place, is far from always being true.

So without knowing the words it's impossible to say .. but if it makes sense to you and you see the potential for an eventual end user using it in some capacity .. then it isn't necessarily a bad purchase. If others are bidding on it then that ups the chances (but does not guarantee) the domain makes sense.

good luck in the auction .. and let us know what the domain was AFTER it hits your account! :)

One day to go. I hope it's going to be a cheap name, and I want to use it to post daily thoughts about Brexit and other stuff. So I don't want to pay too much ( do we ever? ).

Sorry about this guys - it was an expired name auction, and the owner has just renewed the name, so the auction has been cancelled. Don't you just hate these last minute merchants. :)

So - the new phrase is - As the coconut doesn't drop. :)
