With all the different search engines, which ones should I be optimizing for, and which are searched the most often?
Thanks in advance

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Generally Google. However as some have suggested, just make sure your site is full of relevant & unique content for the keywords you're after and then work from there. You should aim to please the visitors and then optimise it for the search engines from there.

:| As long as they are discussing without breaking any rules. What is wrong in the thread. :'(

Let it roll. If someone breaks any rules then yes his post will be deleted. :) Why to close a thread.

I am already trying to get more people to discuss and enlighten themselves on the SEO side. Closing threads will put them off [discourage] :(
When was the last time anyone said anything new??

Never. Everything said here in this section is already said somewhere else. But we cannot close the section due to that.

Everything said in domain discussions is also said somewhere else.

As long as they are not copy pasting replies from other forums its okay. After all they come here to talk and discuss. If they want to start another thread similar to this I still have no problems at all.

If we only went with things that were really only new. Then we will have around 10 threads and 12 members on Namepros. :'(

Anyway the topic is closed about closing this thread. Let the thread continue on the "search engines question" :) If you have something new that you can add please do so :)

Google is top among search engines. But I can say that to get good rankings in Yahoo would rather easier than Google.

I can confirm this. Some of my sites are on the first page of Yahoo ( Some in front of wikipedia ) but Google does not even show them in their results.

There are some things that are commonly liked by all SEs. If you add quality content in your site and if your site gets quality backlinks: then it will automatically rank good in different SEs.

Anyway, I think these are the SEs that will send in traffic:

Google
Yahoo
Bing
Ask
search

Google and bing..
But there are different ways of optimizing for each of them...

You should stick to google among of those search engines because google is the most popular search engine around. I did an optimizing in Yahoo but not getting really good results + its hard to be at their top.
