Scams

I just been contacted by someone who wants to buy a domain i recently registered.

I replied with a price of £200 GBP (it's not a great domain but I think it's a reasonable price)

anyway he's replied by insisting me to get an appraisal done for it (via one he trusts @ $60) - i've informed him i'm happy if he does it at his expense or post for opinions on a forum, but he still insists that i get get one.

This has to be a scam right? is it widespread?

Yes it's a scam. You will pay for the appraisal and never hear from them again. You are old enough to appraise the value of your names.
Tell him to get lost.
