question .ru and .su domains

Is it impossible to buy .ru or .su domains without a Russian passport? Regery suggested as much when I asked, but I've seen other discussions saying that foreigners managed to make purchases.

Just curious. Probably something I'd do for personal amusement (i.e., some vanity email addresses) and not necessarily for profit.

You can buy it without a Russian passport but most of the registrars require ID data for .ru domain. It can be ID of a different country. Some retailers don't ask for ID data.
