Ridiculous Prices Thread

Let's discuss here domains that realized unusually high prices on auctions/buy it now.
I ll start with yesterday's Godaddy auctions , VERAO dot com , $1036. Why did it go that far? Brandability?

Vera is a girls name and O stands for online. I don't think it is expensive at all for such a domain. Vera.com is valued at $266k by Estibot. Even VeraO.com is valued at $7.7K with com/net/org/info taken. I'm not saying you should believe the Estibot valuations. But they are at least an indication that these domains have some value. Actually, I think the buyer got a bargain.

Unfortunately Estibot is really bad at appraising brandables.
IMO this one is a good brandable because it is clearly pronounceable, impossible to misspell and ends with -O, which is considered good.
Still >$1,000 may be too much. Perhaps the domain had also traffic , PR, backlinks etc.

VeraO.com is not a brandable, per se. Although it could be used as one.

-ao sounds like a Portuguese name.

Verão is summer in Portuguese if you don't value diacritics.
I don't know Portuguese but I watch a lot of what american's call soccer-ball so the "ão" is something I recognize.

That alone makes it a good brandable.

Strong brandable, IMO. Just do a Google search for the term and see the images associated with it.

(I had no knowledge of its meaning till now.)
