Hi there,

If you win a GD expired domain auction, do you have to pay renewal fees along with the end price? I presume so?

Many thanks!!

Yes and it can get expensive...discount coupon or no discount coupon as I found out on Day 1 of my overenthusiastic spending spree :xf.frown:

I would think that GoDaddy actually publishes information on how their auction works.
It amazes me how they expect people to just guess these things.

I did a google search for "GoDaddy Winning Expiring Domains...." and if resulted in nothing.

Yes very true...obviously by looking at your stats you've been doing this a while :xf.smile: ...but for the uninitiated like myself it's a minefield...It does mention something in the small print on the auction pages however its all of the terms and conditions that you have to deal with initially that are so confusing, typical legal speak that most probably don't read/understand.

I mean, I've bought a few domains in the expiring auction but then realise that if I was to sell them I may have to wait for x amount of days to transfer them etc...all of this and more really isn't transparent in their FAQ's and is one of the main reasons I've signed up to this great forum...

Then you should probably read this too..

http://tldinvestors.com/2012/08/go-daddy-auction-policy-on-42-vs-45-days-explained.html

Not my blog. It belongs to @equity78 but it highlights discussion on something you will eventually find out... that when you win a name.. it's not actually yours for a while. This is true at other venues too. If you bid on anything somewhere you should search for weird things.

I'll try to be nicer in the future :) I guess you caught me at a grumpy moment (most of the time).

Welcome to the forum. Enjoy.

Ok great...thanks for the link! ...I actually posted a reply from a completely different site before...not sure if you saw it but sorry!

Quick question, if you were to buy a expired domain and look to sell it early on is it required this be stated straight away e.g. If I was to buy today and have it in my portfolio could I advertise it on this site as well as others even though there maybe a waiting time vis a vis Godaddy transfer policy? ...and is it normal to state this at the out set?

Thanks

I would wait one week in order to be sure that the domain is mine. If that helps, from my experience around 4-5% percent of the names I win on auctions get renewed(and I get a refund).

Ok but lets say the domains are cleared and showing in my portfolio...do i need to check and wait for whois update and even then is there not a 30 day transfer wait for godaddy AFTER transaction is complete? ..not sure if this includes internal transfer to another godaddy account?

When you win a domain you have to wait 60 days until you can transfer the domain to another registrar. But you are able to push it to another godaddy account from the moment it shows up on your account.

Note 1. this does not apply to newly registered domains. You can only transfer to another gd account five days after the registration.
Note 2. There is a way to remove the 60 day lock but you will need to provide photo identification to godaddy and complete a relative form. The email is Review60 @ GoDaddy.com
More info about this here

Excellent, covered everything...just one more...would you or anyone else for that matter generally not advertise/list your domains until after that 60 day period or would simply advertise it as being registered with GoDaddy under the assumption that most know the procedures/rules?
That was my last question...promise :xf.wink:

When the domain is on your account, you own it and you can advertise it anywhere you want, at least that's what I do. When I flip domains and the buyer doesn't have a godaddy account he/she just creates one to accept the domain.
