LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - The Rev. Jerry Falwell was hospitalized in "gravely serious" condition after being found unconscious Tuesday in his office at Liberty University, a school executive said.

Ron Godwin, the university's executive vice president, said Falwell, 73, was found unresponsive around 10:45 a.m. and taken to Lynchburg General Hospital. Godwin said he was not sure what caused the collapse, but he said Falwell "has a history of heart challenges."

"I had breakfast with him, and he was fine at breakfast," Godwin said. "He went to his office, I went to mine, and they found him unresponsive."

Godwin said Falwell was receiving emergency care. A hospital spokeswoman said she had "no information to release at this time."

This guy fought Falwell for the domain name www.fallwell.com and won. Check out his front page. BTW, his message has changed somewhat since he first posted it. He also had a link to go on to the site, which has now been replaced with an email address. Anyone have a copy of what the message said before?

I hope you are referring to the lack of class Mr. Falwell had. I certainly won't miss Falwell's hate-filled, intolerant beliefs.

Still, some of the stuff posted on the internet is a little insensitive for having just died. He was a human being...

I have to agree. I have just been looking up some of the stuff he said on Wikiquote and some of it I find very shocking. I can't say I will miss him...

Some of the more cherished quotes from Mr. Falwell, courtesy of thinkexist.com:
"Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questionsโ€
"AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexualsโ€
โ€œBilly Graham is the chief servant of Satan in Americaโ€
"Textbooks are Soviet propagandaโ€
โ€œ(re: 9/11 attacks) "...throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen."

And on a lighter note: โ€œGrown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to themโ€

Agreed. A similar comparison can be seen to the comments made about Ken Lay after his death.

After you pass on, your life will be judged by your character and what you have done for others. If you have lived your life be being selfish, self-serving, intolerant, a profiteer, bigot, etc, etc, people will remember you for it. Alternatively, if you have lived your life as being generous, selfless, kind, etc etc, people will remember you for that.

Just because some or many dispise an individual doesn't mean some (or a lot in the case of Mr. Falwell--he had a large following) will not grieve. While it is prudent to remain tactful, we must also not allow history to be rewritten. Proponents of Mr. Falwell brand him as a hero, inspiration, and God's right-hand man. Those who disagree with these characterizations must hold their ground, even now, just shortly after Mr. Falwell's death.

I think it's quite natural for a human being to die. We all will be in the other world when our time comes.

I registered FalwellDead.com and I'm planning to forward it to a Christian charity (not necessarily Falwell related). I registered it within minutes of seeing the news report on my Google page. It's on Sedo right now to gauge traffic. I tried to get additional names but was unsuccessful.

I got interviewed this afternoon by a reporter from The News & Advance daily newspaper in Lynchburg, Virginia. At the time, he mentioned that I was the only one he'd talked to that had a somewhat positive reason for registering a name related to Falwell's death. He said the story would be on their site tomorrow. I'll post a link when I see it. Their site is www.NewsAdvance.com

He may be dead, but his legacy isn't.
