A true great, Rest In Peace.

Singer James Brown, known as the "Godfather of Soul", has died at the age of 73, his agent has said. He was admitted to hospital in Atlanta after being diagnosed with severe pneumonia but died at 0145 local time (0645 GMT), said Frank Copsidas.

The star was famous for hits including I Got You (I Feel Good), Papa's Got a Brand New Bag and Living in America. "He is such an influence, I learned so much from him," Mr Copsidas told the BBC World Service.

"On Friday he had his toy giveaway, which is his annual toy giveaway in Augusta, Georgia. "On Saturday, he went to his dentist up in Atlanta, and his dentist told him something was wrong, and he sent him to a doctor immediately."

I can remember watching him when I was a kid.. a guy would always come from the side of the stage and throw his cape over him and lead him offstage..

The Godfather of Soul, The Hardest Working Man in Music.
These were two honors he earned through the years of putting
on shows people would talk about their whole lives, and
assembling some tight azz bands, and I mean tight.

I'm not in my neighborhood anymore but i know there is
cryin going on in the streets. James was a BAD man.

;) I like good music and kick ass entertainers. He was both.

This is what I'm talking about! What a character!

They just don't make musicians like that nowadays. It's all the pop idol production line now, no one with even a hint of talent, entertainment or flair.

Tower of Power

I thought these lyrics from Tower of Power's "Diggin on James Brown" would be a great tribute to him:"

I've been through all them changes,
A lot of stuff came down.
I've dealt with all the issues,
You might say I've been around.
But back when I got started,
There was a righteous sound.

It doesn't matter what I've been through,
I'll still be diggin' on James Brown.

Ya know the more things change,
The more they stay the same.
It may be a different age,
But I'm on the same page.

Cause one thing that I've found,
I'll still be diggin' on James Brown.

I had an attitude adjustment,
I did some psycho therapy.
I helped myself to some self-help,
I dabbled in some ESP.
Though my world is ever-changing,
And I move from town to town,

It doesn't matter where I've been to,
I'll still be diggin' on James Brown.

Ya know the more things change,
The more they stay the same.
It may be a different age,
But I'm on the same page.

Cause one thing that I've found,
I'll still be diggin' on James Brown.

You got your rap and your disco,
You got your drum machine.
You got your R-rated gangster,
You got your grungy scene.
You got your state of the art,
You got your digital sound.

It doesn't matter where it's going to
I'll still be diggin' on James Brown.

Take it to the bridge,
It'll get ya where ya live.
When there's water all around,
You can still get outta town,
And still be diggin' on James Brown.

Ya know the more things change,
The more they stay the same.
It may be a different age,
But I'm on the same page.

Cause one thing that I've found,
I'll still be diggin' on James Brown.

James Brown was scheduled to play at the House of Blues in Anaheim, Ca. on 2/10/2007. I kept telling myself this was one of greats I had to see. Sorry, James, I will miss your show.

YipYea Frank-

Tower of Power, another great band with that "tight" sound.
An XLNT pick as a Tribute Tune to James.

*digging through my vinyls and wiping the dust off the turntable...

Peace,
Cyberian

It's funny, but I have always loved T of P, and James Brown, but I just heard this song the day James Brown died. It is indeed a great song, and a great tribute to James Brown.

Thanks Cyberian.
