I thought i would pose the question of 'when voice search becomes common will people request the extension when requesting a search topic' in other words rather than searching via voice, will they request a website address first ? I read an article where a deal has been done with car manufacturers to have a smartphone in the dash and that siri will become commonplace.

Seems like a crazy situation to have such an option while you are driving, perhaps only good for music based applications

What do you think ? Will people request the .com as the default in this situation ?

Yes I def think .com will rule if the whole voice command technology takes off.

People are creatures of habit. When they want to look something up, especially certain websites, they will always resort to what they know and are used to. And 99% of what people are used to and feel comfortable with is .com

No extension will be default. They will voice search the word. People will NOT voice search + extension, this makes no sense. The person will simply voice search the name of the product or intrest.

so will google command voice search too ... seems to me there is room for a new search leader to emerge, if done right.

I see many folk typing the web address into google search ....amazingly not too uncommon

I recently read the top search in ebay was for youtube ...........wft but true

Voice is simply a different input method. The user's search intent hasn't changed. I don't expect a step change in [keyword.tld] search rates. Speaking requires less effort than typing so people will probably voice search longer phrases.
type-in: [tropical storm debby]
voice: [how much rain will tropical storm debby drop on tampa tonight]

... People will NOT voice search + extension, this makes no sense ...
You'd be surprised what people search for โ€ฆ

GAKT global monthly search volume exact match
[youtube] = 755M
[youtube.com] = 16.6M
16.6/755 = 2.2%

If that happens, traffic in my adult sites might really go down big time.

Some of my adult domains are really nasty, it will make you blush saying them out loud.

we can only hope, No more Panda or Penguins would be a great justice to the web, Not to mention having to be in a choke hold all the time.

To the question: I don't see people using voice recognition on the web any different than their keyboard. I think people will keep on doing what they are doing today, They will just speak quotes into G to get search results. Did i mention Pandas and Penguins:-/
