I am on a small mission to research a life cycle of a domain after it has been dropped. It is collect data on various aspects of the domain. Due to limited processing power and database space at this time. I will only be logging 1 days worth of dropped (29,116 dot/com) domains. Due to influences that might affect the data that I am monitoring I am not going to release which day I decided to monitor for the domains. I am going to be monitoring only if the domains were registered or unregistered each day at the same time. This way it will give me data on how many domains are being dropped and reregistered and dropped again. I will monitor those domains for at least a 30 day time frame.

Due to the lack of being able to access a list of domains a few days before they dropped I can not include predrop data on the domains. Day1 will be the day they dropped and after they dropped.

I will be releasing the data as soon as I am done monitoring the domains for at least a two week period.

Day 1 is the day the domains dropped after registars released the domains to be registered by other registars.

For Example: If the domains were going to expire on 04/03/2006 @ 10:00am. I ran the check at 04/03/2006 10:30am (the same day as they were released).

My question to you is which other types of data should I be monitoring for on the domains? If I release the mysql data would anyone help make some graphical, textual, and so forth pages for the data? I would like to also montior a months worth of drop's just to get a lot of data to go over, but at this time I am limited to monitoring the single days drop's because of the processing power needed to check for reg'd unreg'd dot/com domains (29000 of them). Also, if anyone knows of a way to get at least a weeks worth of about to drop domain lists then let me know. I would like to figure out how many days in advance that google and the other search engine unlist the domains from there search engines.

Thanks for looking.

*I don't mean to bump this thread, but it has been over week and I have the test results (sort of). I only got to monitor the domains for 12 days. The date of the dropped domains I was looking at was 06/04/2007. As you can see by the 12th day after the "officially dropped" most of them were "registerable" I guess that is when snapnames, godaddy, enom, and so forth are done with them. I do want to do a full 30 days worth of checks.

For those that want to help provide some data output on the sql database, Please PM me and I'll get you the structures and a bit of data to work with. :) Thanks!!
