Type of Contest: Logo Design

Prize: $30 PayPal

Contest End Date & Time: Nov 6, 2009, 6:00 PM PST

Size Requirements: The logo must look good both on a business card and on my website. This probably means two different sizes. View the site here: bluminteractivemedia.com.

Color Requirements: First make it look right on the website. The business card can then be designed around the logo color scheme from the site. White background is probably best. Important note: all the website colors you see now can be CHANGED if you feel the logo looks best in a particular color.

General Requirements: This is a logo for my consulting business, which provides outsourced product management services. The logo should probably include an icon and text, but an all text treatment could work โ€“ please be creative! The text should be first letter caps or possibly all caps, but not all lowercase. The logo should be all on one line, so it can go across the web page.

If there is an icon, it should reflect the business vision: "Blum Interactive Media specializes in short and long-term outsourced product management. We have over 20 years experience building product plans, creating specifications and crafting strategy."

Additional Information: "Blum Interactive Media" should be separate words, not joined with a .com at the end.

Hi guys...here's some quick feedback.

For both, the logo and text should all be on one line so it can work on the website as well. Also, what would you say the logo represents for you? How does it reflect "outsourced product management"?

koncepts: the color is too light. And it's "Blum" not "Blue" :) Take a look at chrisbrogan.com. He has a nice background and the logo/text in white. Maybe that would work better here.

chewysmom: try making the gradient horizontal not vertical. The background color seems too metallic. Also look at chrisbrogan.com. Don't include ".com" in the text. And I don't love the logo itself - can you give it another try?

chewysmom and koncepts: I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Shizuo: I like the colors on the first example best. The last one might look the best as the logo/banner on the website. Can you try it with a background color closer to chrisbrogan.com? Maybe even include light colors for the text rather than white? (But don't take down the original - I like it too)

umxca: this is very good. The business card layout is nice - but I don't think there's enough room for all the other info I need - such as name, title, address, phone, URL, email. Can you do something with that in your example? Also: how will the logo look at the top of the website? Does it need any kind of color background (I'm not really sure - play around with it, but keep the originally up too).

Good job everyone!

Hi everyone. Some really great stuff here. Some feedback:

umxca: thanks for putting this into the website. It really helps me visual the result. But the right side of the header area looks pretty plain. A logo or some design on the right side would probably help.

shizuo: could you also try showing how the logo in the header area of my web page would look?

crs: this is very nice. But i need it more rectangular and less square so it works in the website as well as on a business card. Can you try that?

chewysmom: I haven't seen your new concept. I liked the first one but you took it down. Please do submit another.

For everyone:

I'm still looking for a logo that's not just pretty but has something to do with "product management." To be more detailed: I take input from clients - interviews, material they've created, their product needs, researching their competition, brainstorming, analysis, etc. - and turn that into a detailed product plan (document, flowcharts, timeline, budget, storyboards, wireframes) that guides them in creating a highly successful and profitable Internet product. Then I stick around to help them with integrating customer feedback to improve the product and put together a feature roadmap to guide the product over its lifecycle. There's also interfacing between my role and other departments in the company - marketing, business development, programmers, graphic artists, advertising.

Does that help?

Wow. These designs are getting better and better! It's going to be really hard to decide.

umxca: can you try putting a color behind the logo on the webpage, like chewysmom did. Maybe a light color so you can keep the design the way it is. The right side looks "bare" - it seems like it needs an icon or some design. Maybe something along the lines of what you did for your business card design earlier. Also I think the logo could be a bit larger

For both umxca and chewysmom, can you make the color lighter. See chrisbrogan.com รขโ‚ฌโ€ Learn How Human Business Works - Beyond Social Media for an example. Also: a gradient of some sort would help, or a slight design (like you see around Chris' picture on his site).

chewysmom: I like the second logo better. Can you do something fancier with the text? And keep in mind that the text "Product Management | Product Planning | Social Media" will be generated by the website software rather than being part of the logo.

crs: I liked your first design better. What I meant was to put "Blum Interactive Media" all one line. I think if you do this, then the icon should be smaller. And, like the others above, could you show me how it would look in the website header area?

shizuo: I like the color examples you did the first time better. They're more "alive." I'd like to see how they look on a business card and also in the website header.

koncepts: nice new designs! I like the icon for the first one and the color of the second one. Can you put those two together. And make the background just a little darker (not much and not as dark as in the first example) keeping the gradient which is nice.

Thanks everyone!
